Talk:Connection Orb

As a note, Pokémon who are not directly recruited via a mission can be connected to by different methods - rank ups and story progress will gradually unlock wandering Pokémon and the like, and communicating on the over world will open up missions, etc. As a result, and since nearly every Pokémon in existence is recruitable, I don't know how well the current structure of the page will fare, especially since completed missions are wiped from your job list and the only way to fill in every mission is to continuously new game. ----Sparen (talk) 16:56, 9 January 2016 (UTC)

Locations

I think the "locations" section is unnecessary, as the mission request dungeons are random. I've watched multiple PSMD playthroughs, and I am 100% sure of this. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 13:04, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

I don't know if I can agree with that yet, since I don't believe ALL of the mission request dungeons are random. Playing through the game I noticed that some of them, particularly the ones that give new dungeons, are always given by the same client in the same dungeon. I can't speak for the other types of missions, but I think it's better to leave it there until there's some more accurate info regarding the rest of the other types. --Clustar (talk) 10:44, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

Groups

I don't have SMD, but I was able to fill in all (or most of) the connections. I'd like to ask the people who do have SMD, though, do you think it might actually be valuable to split the whole list into groups (or mark all the common groups, or whatever)?

What I mean is, there is no path you can follow between any two Pokemon; there are 33 separate groups of Pokemon. For instance, Venipede and Whirlipede are their own tiny little group, only connected to each other. It can be nigh impossible to track all the connections by the table on this page, so you may not be able to tell if there's a Pokemon you've connected to who might lead to a given Pokemon you're not yet connected to. Marking or separating the groups would help a bit with that, but I just don't really know if that'd actually be very useful or anything. Tiddlywinks (talk) 03:51, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

I haven't gone very far in the game, but I'd think separate groups would be best. Not because the table doesn't fulfil what it's supposed to do, but more for the sake of simplicity. You might want more opinions though. --Wowy(토크) 07:14, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
I have SMD, and I second this. While I think it'd be a little hard to map out the whole thing it'd definitely be easier on the eyes to connect it back to the game. Clustar (talk) 10:49, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

Table info

I think there are two things that are really needed in a list of Connection Orb Pokemon (beyond the current first three columns): how you can meet a Pokemon and how you become connected with a Pokemon. Perhaps also: what's required for a Pokemon to display their request/mission (if there's anything substantial to that).

I'd like to ask again for input from anyone who actually knows SMD. Just one column for each (meet and connect) seems simplest. But maybe you think something more than just one column (for one or both) would be nice? Right now I mostly think the Method column with things like just "Client" or "Connection of client" is super confusing; I think it would be much simpler to just say something like "Complete [request name]" or "Complete [Pokemon's] request".

(On an unrelated note, I was also wondering... What is "List Menu" in the Connection Orb's menu? And what exactly does Fuzzy Search entail?) Tiddlywinks (talk) 18:45, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

Honestly not sure where to put this, but I just found Unown(!) in Abundance Pass on the Grass Continent. I have 5 other missions in here at the moment which are finding a Special Gift for Kirlia, Rescue Whimsicott, Go Check Out Nidoran(Female)'s Secret Base, Go Check Out Jellicent's Secret Base and Rescue Bidoof with Loudred, if that helps anyone. Also, I'm not really sure how to edit that table xD. SpiritualBanana (talk) 19:42, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

I'm working on all this myself. I have a Google doc where I'm working on compiling this all and I'm like 90% of the way done, the last 10% is testing that I and others on the PMD Speedrun Discord are working on. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uSkeFqWhk1ivplOar21xl75Q0q7zhIQVlVoNWOeBSs4/edit?usp=sharing There was interest here about finding this info to get into the Bulbapedia page. Well, here it is. Thing is, I don't really want to put it in myself since a) unfamiliarity with wiki editing, b) a general unfamiliarity with Bulbapedia procedures/policies/standards, c) I don't know much of this should go on or how to format it, and d) I'm incredibly exhausted and burned out from working on this and just kinda want to be done when I'm done, but I want it out into the public eye somehow. I'm gonna make a GameFAQs guide too but it'd be great to have it on Bulbapedia as well.

I'm perfectly willing to answer questions, clarify, and generally assist in compiling this massive table, but not so much in the mood for spearheading the editing project singlehandedly. HMU if you want to use my info.

Also a friend of mine made an image of the Connection Orb based on its ingame appearance. It's not mined directly from the game but it does illustrate the way the orb looks. Let me know if you want that too. Altissimo (talk) 21:00, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

GameFAQs guide is done. It's not 100% complete yet but I am actively editing it. Feel free to use the info. https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/3ds/160809-pokemon-super-mystery-dungeon/faqs/77474 Altissimo (talk) 22:27, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

"New Dungeon Mission" stars and Legendary Pokemon

So, the Pokemon that have the a small cluster of yellow stars around them before connection all give missions that will result in a new dungeon becoming unlocked. However, I didn't realize this until very late in the game and had already connected with most of the legendary Pokemon. Many dungeons that house legendary Pokemon will also unlock a new dungeon upon completion, but most of these Pokemon don't have Connection Orb requests associated with them, so it wouldn't quite apply. Do the few that do have requests and unlock new dungeons (like the Lake Trio) have the star cluster next to them? If they don't, we should clarify that the stars for non-legendary Pokemon with those sorts of missions. VioletPumpkin (talk) 15:35, 2 July 2016 (UTC)

Cacnea and a New Group

I noticed in this very talk page someone (Tiddlywinks) wanted to include info about how to unlock Pokémon in the Orb & how to unlock their missions. I'm working on this myself as part of a project for the PMD speedrunning Discord. Feel free to let me know if you want to help - right now I've got a million Google docs I'm working on tracking things in, but the most important two right now are these: a spreadsheet and an outline describing the connections and missions taken during 3 separate 100% runs accomplished/archived on Twitch by the streamer/speedrunner MozzarellaCheez.

More importantly for this edit, the reason I'm posting this is because I noticed an error on the page that I'm going to edit and wanted to explain myself. Cacnea is listed as being connected to Snubbull and Kricketot, who are in turn said to be connected to it. If you look at approx. 8:57 of this video, you'll see this. HOWEVER I can also say definitively that what it SHOULD be is that Kricketot and Snubbull are connected, and Cacnea merely "gets in the way" of this. Evidence: ~12:12:40, ~12:25:50 and ~13:31:00 of this video, which show Snubbull-Kricketot but no Cacnea. In light of this, I actually went back into my own (incomplete) file and took Volcarona's mission, which also connects Cacnea. Cacnea is shown in the Orb only connected to Slakoth and Volcarona, NOT Kricketot or Snubbull.

That would have been it... except I also realized that fixing this mistake... adds a whole other group onto the list. Cacnea is part of group 3, but Cacnea is the only thing connecting Snubbull and Kricketot (and all their friends, etc) to group 3, so severing that link creates a whole new group. So I'm gonna edit that in too.

Feel free to ... respond i guess idk i havent used wikis in forever ok Altissimo (talk) 02:10, 3 May 2019 (UTC)

Wait no I'm wrong it doesn't make a new group, because Cascoon is another "link point" my bad (my notes are a bit messy), still the other stuff about Cacnea applies and I'mma edit it Altissimo (talk) 02:17, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
