Metal Claw

The charmander in Fire red and Leaf green was capable of learning Metal Claw by level. It hasn't been able to do this in any other game. While I realise this was most likely done to make the battle against Brock a bit less hopeless. It also somewhat implies that that particular Charmander was bred by Prof. Oak from a female member of the Charmander family, and a male of the Aron one. XD As this is pretty much the only way they still can learn Metal Claw at all. --Flameblight 11:46, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Not really because then the charmander would have the attack as it comes to the player --D i o n 2 4 11:54, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Breedable Gen III Moves

I think it should be noted that Charmander can also learn Dragon Dance in Gen III by breeding with a Gyarados. Also, that it needs to be chain bred. Yourlilemogirl 03:41, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Trivia

I disagree with the trivia "This is likely so that Charmander would have at least one move to use against the Pewter City Gym.", so I went ahead an removed it.

The logic would make sense *IF* you got Charmander FIRST and then worked your way up to Pewter City, but that is not the case in HG and SS. |Cynn's Thong| 14:09, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Well, Charmander isn't a starter Pokémon in HGSS, and by the time you get to Pewter City you have plenty more than just your starter (I hope). The trivia's really meant in reference to FRLG, so I'm going to add it back. Trivia doesn't have to be relevant to only the most recent game. --ZestyCactus 15:38, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
Then explain the logic behind "so that Charmander would have at least one move to use against the Pewter City Gym" if you are not even able to obtain Charmander in-game story-wise until after (and by after I mean way' after) you get the badge. I would love to see your answer. I am reverting it back. Use your head and think before you revert. Peace out, kiddie. |Cynn's Thong| 16:01, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
...what? This trivia isn't about HGSS. This is about Generation III (Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen), where you do get Charmander before the first Badge, assuming it is your starter Pokémon. --ZestyCactus 16:06, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

BW sprites

There is a difference between the sprites from Black and White. --Teddi'Ampha

Could you tell what kind of difference it is?--Den Zen 15:53, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

Overlarged Sprite

Shiny emerald sprite is overlarged. --Harv13 (talk page) 23:25, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

It's actually fine. The image was resized, and sometimes when syncing, the old image is simply stretched to the new size. Once it syncs up, it will be okay. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 23:28, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Why was Physiology taken off the page, and why is it happening to other pages?

I undid a edit thinking it was vandalism, but now I am seeing similar mass deletion of data such as physiology, behavior and diet. What is the deal? Yamitora1 (talk) 01:04, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Read the Message from the Editor on the Main Page. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 01:06, 17 August 2013 (UTC)
Oh, Ok sorry. Yeah, I haven't checked that part out in months since it hadn't updated since a older admin stepped down last year.
Ok, well I look forward to seeing how this improves the articles. I just hope the main page's mention that some info was made up doesn't make people question every single change another editor adds. I personally like adding realism to the now obsolete physiology and biology sections, which includes scientific names and terms used in real animal and human biology where applicable. So long as the additions are properly referenced, questioning them should not be issue. However, any information not on the page or referenced in some way will be removed. Crystal Talian 09:52, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

Intro and Breeding Air Cutter questions

Shouldn't the Intro state that Charmander, along with the other 2 are also available in XY?

Also, Charizard "learns" Air Cutter from the start, and all it takes is a heart scale for it to "remember" the move. Wouldn't that mean that it can pass it down as an egg move without having to have learned it in a prior game/generation? Yamitora1 (talk) 15:42, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

I would say yes to the intro part, but for the second part, you seem to be confusing Air Cutter with Air Slash. Charizard learns Air Slash at the start, but like its first form, can only learn Air Cutter by breeding. Schiffy (瀬藤健二) (Talk Contribs) 15:45,1/24/2014 (UTC)
Oh ok, oops lol. So about the intro, how would that be worded. Its not like its exactly at the beginning of XY, but its pretty much before much of the story takes place.Yamitora1 (talk) 16:46, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
My best guess would be something along the lines of "Along with Bulbasaur and Squirtle, Charmander is one of three starter Pokémon of Kanto available at the beginning of Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, FireRed, and LeafGreen, and early in Pokémon X and Y" or something like that. It could probably use some tweaking before anything is added. Schiffy (瀬藤健二) (Talk Contribs) 17:06,1/24/2014 (UTC)
If I remember correctly, this was discussed before, and it was decided that since the Kanto starters are available so late in XY (several towns in & well past the first Badge) they can't be considered "starters" in XY. Since we don't list, for example, the Johto starters in Emerald or the Kanto/Hoenn starters in HGSS in their intros, I don't think it's noteworthy to list these, either. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 17:33, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

I don't think how many cities you travel through really matters. I mean you have to travel a city over to get the Kalos starters to begin with. And after that, there is only one city and a badge between you and them. As for those examples you gave, those are well into post game, whereas these are received well before mid game. In fact if I remember that the game developers even stated you get the Kanto starters at the beginning of the game as well during some interview or another. That was one of the biggest hypes for the games, before Mega Charizard X or Y was revealed. Up until then only Lucario, Blaziken, Mewtwo, Aphrous and I think Mawile were known to Mega evolve. Receiving these guys in XY is different from past game where you had to beat the E4 before having a crack at getting other starters from other gens.

It use to be a starter was any Pokémon received from the region's prof...Sycamore is the Kalos region' prof, and he gives out one of three Pokémon before most of the game's story ever takes place. He sends you off with them, not to just fill your Pokédex but also research mega evolution which they all can achieve. Sycamore starts you off on your Mega Evolution quest with the Kanto starters. Yamitora1 (talk) 00:13, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

They're still not the starting (i.e. first) Pokémon the player is capable of receiving, so they are quite literally not starter Pokémon in XY. I still think they should be treated as any other gift Pokémon (the ones I already mentioned, as well as, for example, Togepi in GSC/HGSS, Riolu in DPPt, Larvesta in BW, etc): not mentioned in the lede. To mention them gives them undue importance, since gift Pokémon are otherwise never mentioned in their ledes. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 01:22, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

Origin

Any chance it could be based on the Evren, a Turkish dragon with a flaming tail? That's a pretty iconic feature to have. Even though Charmander's probably not based on the Evren, it's at least similar. --TheVeryBest 23:30, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
