Origin

Besides being based off a fennik fox, the whole line also takes inspiration from a witch or mage, which hopefully will become more clear in it's final evolution. CoolDudeAl (talk) 01:25, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

To add to this it appears to use its stick as a wand Vienna Waltz (talk) 14:13, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

Braixen is based on a Fennec fox. It uses a stick like a wand in some of its attacks, and its tail has the appearance of a broom when the stick is placed on it, alluding to traits commonly associated with Witches.

That should definitely suffice for now for its origin. Frushil! (talk) 19:09, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

Name meaning

Braixen seems to be based on braise (French for live coals) and vixen. Kikiyume (talk) 13:59, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

Bra- could also be from branch, considering it wields a stick. Zeb (talk) 14:07, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, there are lots of double meanings in Pokemon names. That was an interesting thing to point out. Kikiyume (talk) 17:07, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Could it perhaps also be based on "hexen", the German word for "witches"? - MK (t/c) 06:59, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

Korean name for Braixen

Its Korean name is 테르나 Tereuna.

  • Likely based on its Japanese name... but I'll make sure there isn't more to it in a bit. -- Nick15 (talk) 17:20, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
  • Yeah, totally based on the Japanese name. -- Nick15 (talk) 17:53, 16 September 2013 (UTC)

Fire/Fighting Starter trend broken TRIVIA

Will somebody please put in the Trivia section that Braixen is the first mid-stage Fire starter pokemon to not be part fighting type and have it carry to its evolution since Combusken? I don't know how to word it. :( --MrSpheal 15:57, 20 January 2015 (UTC)

In my honest opinion, I don't think it's notable enough. Sure, we might have gone through three consecutive generations with that pairing, but I'm looking at the whole picture in here. 3 out of 6 Generations have had Fire/Fighting as the final evolutionary stage of the fire starter. Had we had 5 out of 6 generations instead, then I would list it. Masatoshi talk 21:20, 20 January 2015 (UTC)
