:Some of the Pokémon he's befriended are already under the "temporary" section. Haunter and Larvitar are special because for a time, they were unofficially a part of Ash's team. ::Aggron is correct, Haunter and Larvitar were different cases from Ash simply using/borrowing a Pokémon for a battle or two, or for an event such as the Pokémon race he borrowed Ponyta/Rapidash for. While Ash does borrow friends' Pokémon occasionally and might already have a bond with them, they don't count as part of his actual team lineup.
