Biology
Physiology
Stunky is a small, skunk-like Pokémon with dark-purple fur. Its face is large and rounded, with a narrow orange nose, orange-rimmed eyes, and two pairs of somewhat "V"-shaped cream-colored whiskers on the sides of its face. It has two pointed ears that appear orange on the inside. A stripe of cream-colored fur runs along its back from the neck to the tail, with a small tuft protruding from the base of the neck. Its tail is raised high and ends with spiked hair pointed behind it. It has a cream-colored underbelly, and four short legs, that end in paws with three small, white claws.
Stunky are small mammalian Pokémon that are dark purple with a white stripe running down their backs. Their faces have feline like features including the ears that may relate to Skunks being called polecats.

Stunky can spray a foul-smelling liquid from its rear in order to drive attackers away, which is able to reach up to 16 feet (5 meters) away. It prefers to aim for its target's face. The stench can be smelled from over a mile (2 kilometers) away, and will linger for around 24 hours. The stench can cause memory loss.

Evolution
Stunky evolves into Skuntank.

(For specifics on this Pokémon's evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)

In the anime
Main series
Major appearances
Stunky debuted in A Secret Sphere of Influence!, under the ownership of Officer Jenny. When TRT tried to make off with the Adamant Orb, Stunky took the orb back for Officer Jenny and scared Team Rocket away with its Stench ability.

In Losing Its Lustrous!, another Stunky and its Officer Jenny were guarding the Adamant Orb while it was being transported to Celestic Town via aircraft, when Team Galactic attacked and stole the orb.

Minor appearances
In The Rise of Darkrai, Darkrai hit a Stunky with Dark Void.

In Lost Leader Strategy!, a Stunky was under Reggie's care.

A Stunky appeared in Enter Galactic!.

In Old Rivals, New Tricks!, a Coordinator's Stunky competed in the Battle Stage of the Sandalstraw Contest.

A Stunky appeared in Battling a Cute Drama!.

A Stunky appeared in Classroom Training!, under the ownership of the Snowpoint Trainers' School.

In Beating the Bustle and Hustle!, a Trainer's Stunky competed in the fake Sinnoh Pokémon Hustle that TRT had set up.

Gender differences
In A Marathon Rivalry!, a Trainer's Stunky competed in the Pokéathlon held in Camellia Town.
None.

Special abilities
A Trainer's Stunky appeared in a flashback in Flint Sparks the Fire!.
It protects itself by spraying a foul smelling liquid from its hindquarters which lasts for twenty-four hours. This is a defensive tactic and not an actual attack which means it cannot be deflected.

Behavior
A Stunky appeared in the opening sequence of Zoroark: Master of Illusions.
If threatened, they use their smell to deter would-be attackers. It is shown in A Secret Sphere of Influence! that Stunky does a handstand before and when it sprays like a Spotted Skunk.

Habitat
In Pikachu and the Pokémon Music Squad, a Stunky was living in a forest.

Diet
In Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel, a wild Stunky was living at the Nebel Plateau.

* Despite being based on a striped species of skunk, Stunky sprays from a handstand like a spotted skunk, as seen in the episode The Secret Sphere of Influence.
* Stunky can be seen as a parallel to Glameow. Stunky is exclusive to Pokémon Diamond and Black 2, while Glameow is exclusive to Pokémon Pearl and White 2, and their evolved forms are used by Team Galactic Commanders Jupiter and Mars, respectively. Also, they both belong to the Field Egg Group and a two-stage evolutionary line, and they both cannot be found in Pokémon Platinum.

Origin
Origin
It is based on a skunk, likely a hognosed skunk.
Stunky is based on a skunk, likely a hog-nosed skunk. It also bears a resemblance to a cat of some sort, which is fitting as baby skunks are called kits or kittens. Given that both its Japanese name and its cry make reference to flatulence, it is likely that its face is based on the form of the buttocks. Its learning Self-Destruct, Explosion as well as its ability Aftermath is likely derived from gas bombs, flatulence or skunks releasing all of their spray at once if hit by moving cars.

Name origin
Name origin
Stunky's name comes from the words skunk or "stunk" and stinky. Skunpoo's name comes from the words skunk and pyoo, which is what someone says when something stinks.
Stunky may be a combination of skunk or stunk and stinky.

Skunpuu may be a combination of skunk and プー (onomatopoeia for the sound of flatulence).
