And yes, the <nowiki>[[wp:whatever]]</nowiki> links to whatever article you want on Wikipedia, you just gotta remember to use the pipe so that it doesn't appear as wp:whatever in the text, and just as whatever. After all, I wanna say that [[wp:echidna|echidna]]s are awesome, not [[wp:echidna]]s are awesome. There's a de, jp, and pl thing, too, to link to PokéWiki, Pokémon Wiki, and Wikinezka articles as well, but you have to have a colon in front as well as after the letters, as if you were linking to a category (instead of putting an article in a category) or linking an image as text.
