Sophia
Sophia (Japanese: ソフィア Sophia) is a character of the day who appears in Moving Pictures.
She lives with her husband, Marcello, at the Sunflora Lodge, which they both run. She likes to tell romantic stories about herself that aren't necessarily true. Sophia and Marcello have been married for fifty years, and they have taken an anniversary picture on the south slope for each of the fifty years with hundreds of Sunflora. On their fiftieth anniversary, all they could find was a Sunkern. The Sunflora no longer came due to the colder climate caused by an Articuno living nearby. Seeing this, Brock suggested to Ash that he should evolve the Sunkern with the Sun Stone he won as a prize in the Bug-Catching Contest. After doing so, the newly evolved Sunflora sang a song that attracted hundreds of Sunflora. The couple was very pleased and expressed their thanks to Ash and company.

| Sophia befriended a Sunflora when it was a Sunkern, it evolved after touching Ash's Sun Stone. It first appeared when Ash and his friends including Todd Snap spotted a frozen Sunkern they took it to the Sunflora Lodge where Sophia nursed it back to health. That year the Sunflora had mysteriously disappeared by Articuno's icy winds and snow. Later when Team Rocket cause havoc with their snow machine, it uses Sunny Day to melt the snow. Ash and his friends are sure that the Sunflora will come now but they do not. Ash then remembers the Sun Stone he won in the Bug-Catching Contest and it evolves it into a Sunflora. Sunflora suddenly calls and hundreds of Sunflora appear and they are able to the photo for Sophia and Marcello's 50th anniversary.
Sunflora's only known move is Sunny Day. | ||

| Over the years Sophia with her husband, Marcello have befriended loads of Sunflora over the years taking pictures with them every anniversary until they reached their 50th and there was none. It had all started 50 years ago when Marcello was involved in an accident and was in a coma for months, one day a letter arrived by Marcello. It talked about him coming by the lodge tomorrow, and if she was married or in love with another, that he wishes her happiness, but if she still accepted him, he told her to place a Sunflora in front of the lodge so he’ll know. She asked every Pokémon Trainer if they had a Sunflora until the next day when he arrived she had thousands with her and they got married.
There were initially no Sunflora for Sophia and Marcello's 50th anniversary, but later a Sunflora which Ash just evolved called and hundreds of Sunflora appeared just in time for the anniversary picture. None of Sunflora's moves are known. | ||

Trivia
- Sophia's name is a reference to the Italian actress Sophia Loren. Also, her husband's name, Marcello, is a reference to the Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni, who starred with the former in several films.
