Badly startles Pokémon that the audience has high expectations of.

Smack Down (Japanese: うちおとす Knock Down) is a damage-dealing Rock-type move introduced in Generation V. It has been TM23 since Generation V.

Effect

Smack Down inflicts damage.

Smack Down removes the effects of Magnet Rise and Telekinesis. Smack Down makes its target vulnerable to Ground-type moves and Arena Trap even if it is Flying-type or has Levitate. This effect lasts until the affected Pokémon switches out. This effect does not occur if the target is behind a substitute.

Smack Down can hit Pokémon during the semi-invulnerable turns of Fly, Bounce, and Sky Drop, and if it does it will deal double damage. If it hits a Pokémon that is using Fly or Bounce, it will knock it down, cancelling the move; if it hits a Pokémon using or affected by Sky Drop, it will not be knocked down. A Pokémon hit with Smack Down can still use these moves on subsequent turns.

In the anime

Dwebble

The user hits the foe and knocks it back to the ground.
Pokémon Method
User First Used In Notes
Dwebble opens its mouth and a metallic gold orb of energy that is surrounded in orange energy appears in front of it. Dwebble then fires the orb at the opponent. When the orb hits the opponent, it explodes. If the opponent was in the air when the orb of energy explodes, the opponent shoots straight down to the ground.
A wild Dwebble A Home For Dwebble! Debut
Regigigas creates several glowing orange energy globs between its hands. Energy globs become brown stones and Regigigas fires orange energy at the opponent with a trail of that stones. The hit is followed by an explosion.

Trivia

  • Smack Down is the most accurate physical Rock-type move, being the only one to have 100% accuracy.
  • The English name of this move may be an homage to former professional wrestler Dwayne Johnson, who is associated with the coining of the word smackdown, and shares his ring name, The Rock, with the type of the move.
