Simipour (Japanese: ヒヤッキー Hiyakkie) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It evolves from Panpour when exposed to a Water Stone.

Biology

Physiology

Simipour is a Water-type primate-like Pokémon that is primarily blue in coloration. It has crests on its head similar to dreadlocks and broad ears to the sides of it. These ears are ringed with the darker blue of its body, and the inside part is a light robin's egg blue. Simipour also have a cream-colored face, chest, hands, arms, legs, and feet. Its torso is white on top and blue on the bottom, and its tail is cream colored with a blue plume, resembling a spout of water.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

It has the ability to store water in its hair. When its supply is dwindling it siphons water with its tail for more. Its tail can also shoot pressurized water which is powerful enough to destroy walls of concrete. It and its pre-evolution are the only Pokémon to learn Scald via level up.

Behavior

When the stored water is dwindling, it supplies more by siphoning water with its tail.

Trivia

Simipour's old artwork
  • Simipour, along with Simisage and Simisear, and their respective pre-evolutions, are the only non-starter Pokémon that can have a starter Pokémon-exclusive ability. In Simipour and Panpour's case, this is Torrent.
  • Simipour and its pre-evolution are the only Pokémon capable of learning Scald by level-up.
  • Simipour's Sugimori art previously showed its entire tail to be completely blue instead of tan with a blue tip.

Origin

Simipour is based on a monkey and a fountain; because of this, it may have been inspired by the water dwelling, monkey-like creature Ahuizotl or may be a visual pun on Sea-Monkeys. The ability to store water in its hair may also reference the Kappa, a Japanese reptilian yōkai that stores water on a dish of sorts on it head. Its chest fur resembles that of a volcano and may have possibly been based on geysers, subaqueous volcanoes, cryovolcanoes or the Guatemalan Volcán de Agua. Its chest fur may otherwise possibly resemble the froth of a gushing waterfall, with its blue locks symbolizing the waterfall. It, along with its two contemporaries, seem to inspired by the three wise monkeys motif; with its eyes closed, Simipour represents "see no evil".

Name origin

Simipour may come from simian and "pour". Hiyakkie is possibly derived from 冷や hiya meaning cool water, and from monkey. It may also come from the word けっき kekki meaning vigor.
