In a [[DP001|situation remarkably similar]] to {{an|Dawn}}'s, Shinko was in the middle of examining the [[starter Pokémon]] when the {{p|Chimchar}} and {{p|Piplup}} start fighting. They end up breaking the window and escaping into the woods. Shinko tells [[Professor Rowan]] what happened and Dawn offers to help find the escaped Pokémon.

Suddenly the Ariados fires a {{m|Poison Sting}} and Cyndaquil takes the hit and is badly hurt.

But suddenly Cyndaquil [[Evolution|evolves]] into a {{p|Quilava}} and uses {{m|Eruption}} defeating the Ariados. They successfully get the Pokémon back and Shinko decides to wait a while before choosing her starter Pokémon. She is later seen at [[Twinleaf Town|Twinleaf]]'s port when Dawn leaves for her journey to [[Hoenn]].
