Major events

• Hapu officially becomes the new Island Kahuna of Poni Island.
• Ash battles Hapu in the Poni Island grand trial and wins, clearing his final grand trial in Alola.
• Hapu offers Ash a type-specific Z-Crystal of his choice as his prize. Pikachu picks the Steelium Z.
• Ash and his classmates reunite with Professor Kukui and head back towards Melemele Island.

• The opening animation is updated to include Shaymin.
• Professor Kukui, an expert Caddie, Pikachu, and Ash narrate the preview for the next episode.
• The original preview for this episode included Rotom next to Kiawe during the shot where Kiawe tells Ash to do his best, but in the episode proper, Rotom is not seen in said shot.
• The method Ash uses to defeat Mudsdale (covering it in water, making it susceptible to Pikachu's Electric-type attacks) is the similar to the method he used to defeat Brock in Showdown in Pewter City. Although in that episode, it happened by accident, where on this occasion Ash does it on purpose.
  • It is also similar to the method Ash used to damage Pryce's Piloswine with Electric-type moves in Nice Pryce, Baby!and to further damage Alain's Tyranitar in Finals Not for the Faint-Hearted!, except in the latter case, Tyranitar was a Dark/Rock Type.

Errors

• After Kiawe is initially shown in his usual swim shorts, his shorts change color to look like the usual shorts that he wears.
