Trainers who defeat her receive the [[Badge#Stonebadge|Stonebadge]]. She is a scholar who specializes in {{t|Rock}}-type Pokémon.

Her English name means "dawn", but was probably chosen because it begins with "rocks." Her Japanese name means ''azalea''. She is called "Roxanne" in French too because of its similarity to "roche"("rock"). Her German name, "Felizia", comes from "felsen"(stone). "Petra", her Italian names, is very similar and also means "pietra"(rock, stone). She is called "Petra" also in Spanish because of its similarity to the word "piedra" and "petreo", "stone" and "rocky". Her Russian and Chinese names are just phonetical translations.

After some time spent at the school, Ash challenged Roxanne at the [[Gym]] while being filmed by some of Roxanne's students.  Ash's [[Ash's Pikachu|Pikachu]] was able to defeat both of her Pokémon through a combonation of pure electrical power and the {{m|Iron Tail}} technique, taking Roxanne by surprise.
