[[Pokémon Picross (Game Boy Color)|Pokémon Picross]] for the [[Game Boy Color]] has 217 stages available in the game. These stages are divided into 15 areas, usually with 15 puzzles each - however, area 10 instead has 16 puzzles, and Safari area 4 only has 6 puzzles.

Completing a stage will unlock its solution image in one of the game's galleries, where it can be viewed in color at any time. Any solution image may also be printed out through the [[Game Boy Printer]]. 
* Stages in area 0 do not have a dedicated gallery - instead, each stage's solution image can be viewed only one-at-a-time from the map screen, by selecting the "data" option on the completed stage.
* Stages in areas 1 to 10 each represent one Pokémon. Completing a puzzle will add that puzzle's Pokémon to the Pokédex.
* Stages in Safari areas 1 to 4 may include one or more Pokémon at once. Completing a puzzle here will add that puzzle to the safari album.

Completing a puzzle will mark its overworld icon with a [[Poké Ball (item)|Poké Ball]]. Completing it within the stage's specific "par time" will instead mark it with a [[Great Ball]].

When first entering an area, the first 14 puzzles may be attempted in any order, but the 15th puzzle will only appear after clearing 8 different puzzles with Great Balls in that area.
* In Safari areas 1-3, only 4 puzzles need to be solved with Great Balls.
* In Safari area 4, only 2 puzzles need to be solved with Great Balls.

To unlock the next area, the player must clear 8 different puzzles in the current area with at least a Poké Ball.
* Area 0 and area 1 are not connected; either can be attempted in any order.
