| First off, know the region. [[Kalos]] is the newest edition to the world of pokemon, based off France with it's own mock Eiffel Tower in [[Lumiose City]]. The region is very fashion and beauty focused, with the typical Parisian air of wealth and the occasional French dialogue from an NPC or two.

| The game starts out with the typical questions. Male? If so you play as [[Calem]]. Female? If so you play as [[Serena]]. Regardless of gender, you get to choose your name. After these hard choices, your character wakes up at home, in [[Vaniville Town]], with your mother [[Grace]]. Once again, the father figure is nowhere to be found. You change your clothes, get your day started and viola! Now it is time to choose a nickname for yourself which your friends [[Trevor]], [[Tierno]], [[Shauna]], and competitor of the opposite sex, will most likely refer to you as the rest of the game.

| Then comes selecting your pokemon from the three new starters; water type [[froakie]], fire type [[fennekin]], or grass type [[chespin]]. You begin your adventure and travel to the heart of Lumiose and meet [[Professor Sycamore]], who your mother oddly enough, finds herself fawning over. Professor Sycamore gives you yet another starter from either [[bulbasaur]], [[charmander]], or [[squirtle]]. Here is where you start your further journey past collecting the eight badges, into assisting the professor further his mega-evolution research and figuring out what's with the mysterious [[Team Flare]].

| | |
| The game includes the new champion, young movie star [[Diantha]], the professor's best friend [[Lysandre]], and the old character [[Looker]], who allows you to help him in the Looker Quest once the main plot has been finished.
