'''Megalo Cannon''' features the debut of {{p|Genesect}} in the [[Pokémon Trading Card Game]], as well as [[Team Plasma]] and their Pokémon and for the first time since their debut in {{TCG|Plasma Storm}}, cards designed to specifically counter Team Plasma. Along with the typical Pokémon and {{TCG|Trainer card}}s the set sports {{TCG|Pokémon-EX}} cards, {{TCG|Ace Spec card}}s, a {{TCG|Special Energy card}}, {{TCG|Full Art card}}s, and [[Shiny Pokémon|Shiny]] {{TCG|Secret card}}s, totaling 86 cards. The set was released on March 15th, 2013 in Japan accompanied by the {{TCG|Blastoise/Kyurem-EX Combo Deck}}.

In order to help defend against Team Plasma's onslaught, [[Unova]] champion [[Iris]] is present alongside [[Caitlin]], a member of the [[Unova]] [[Elite Four]]. Five {{TCG|Pokémon-EX}} are included: {{TCG ID|Megalo Cannon|Virizion-EX|9}}, {{TCG ID|Megalo Cannon|Jirachi-EX|51}}, and Team Plasma's {{TCG ID|Megalo Cannon|Genesect-EX|10}}, {{TCG ID|Megalo Cannon|Dialga-EX|53}}, and {{TCG ID|Megalo Cannon|Palkia-EX|54}}. Many of the Pokémon present are not from [[Generation V]], but instead are Pokémon from older Generations, some of which not featured in the Card Game since the Diamond & Pearl Series.

 

Megalo Cannon is only the third set of the BW Era to feature [[Fossil]]s, the first two being {{TCG|Red Collection}} and {{TCG|Dark Rush}}. {{p|Archen}} and {{p|Tirtouga}} are given their second cards, while {{p|Lileep}} is given its first printing as a {{TCG|Restored Pokémon}}. {{TCG|Plume Fossil}} and {{TCG|Cover Fossil}} are reprinted, and a new fossil Trainer card, {{TCG|Root Fossil Lileep}} is included in favor over the old {{TCG|Root Fossil}} in order to prevent confusion over how the card should work. The expansion also includes a new iteration of [[Technical Machine]]s. Because Technical Machines in the [[Pokémon games]] now have unlimited uses, they are now present on {{TCG|Pokémon Tool card}}s, instead of being a separate Trainer card class discarded at the end of the turn.

 

A special promotional card was given to those who purchased a booster box of Megalo Cannon in stores. This promotional card was {{TCG ID|BW-P Promo|Porygon-Z|208}}, a reprint with new artwork of the same Pokémon in the expansion.
