Paul's Electabuzz (Japanese: シンジのエレブー Shinji's Eleboo) is the first of Paul's revealed Pokémon. It is voiced by 三宅健太 Kenta Miyake in both Japanese and English.

History

Paul had it as an Elekid during his first appearance in When Pokémon Worlds Collide!. He used it in a battle against Ash and his Pikachu. After a fierce battle, both Pokémon fainted and the battle ended up in a draw. In Paul's Glory Blaze! flashback, it was seen with Paul shortly before he caught Chimchar.

Paul also used it in his battle against Roark in Shapes of Things to Come!, where it defeated his Geodude and Cranidos.

In Smells Like Team Spirit!, Elekid evolved into Electabuzz during a tag battle where it was fighting alongside Ash's Chimchar against Dawn's Buizel and Conway's Heracross.

It was revealed in Lost Leader Strategy! that Paul had left Electabuzz with his brother, Reggie, for training. It was here, three episodes later that both Electabuzz and Ash's Pikachu settled their differences and became friendlier towards one another.

Electabuzz rejoined Paul after the events of Enter Galactic!, to have the upper hand in the battle against the Pastoria Gym Leader. In Chim - Charred! it was seen helping Paul battle a wild Drapion. It still seemed to have friendly feelings towards Pikachu.

It appeared again in A Pyramiding Rage!, where it took part in Paul's battle against Pyramid King Brandon. It was defeated by Brandon's Regirock.

It re-appeared during the full battle that Paul had with Ash in Pedal to the Mettle! and Evolving Strategies!. It mainly used Light Screen in the battle which provided protection for his other Pokémon. This helped Paul's Honchkrow and Torterra against Ash's Grotle and Chimchar respectively. It usually was recalled after doing so. It only truly battled Ash's Monferno in a close match but Electabuzz finally won the match for Paul.

Electabuzz's most recent anime appearance was in DP163, where Paul unsuccessfully used it to try and save Barry's Empoleon, Ash's Pikachu and Dawn's Piplup from one of Team Rocket's machines.

Trivia

  • For Pika and Goliath!, Professor Oak's lecture is about Paul's Electabuzz.
  • It is one of the two Pokémon Paul has that is voiced by Kenta Miyake, the other being Ursaring.
  • It is the second known Pokémon of Paul's to evolve and the only one of Paul's Pokémon to evolve onscreen.
  • Along with Lairon, Electabuzz is the only one of Paul's Pokémon not to have fully evolved.
  • Electabuzz seems to be the principal rival for Ash's Infernape. They were both introduced together and used in Paul's first gym battle, then Electabuzz evolved from Elekid in a double battle partnered with Chimchar, who had only just joined Ash's team. Later, Electabuzz defeated the newly evolved Monferno in the final round of Ash and Paul's full battle in DP132, and was present for Monferno's final evolution in DP163.
  • Electabuzz can also be seen as Pual's parallel to Ash's Pikachu.
    • Both are electric type.
    • Both are the 2nd stage of a 3 part evolutionary line. The first forms from both lines are baby pokemon and require an item for evolution to the final form.
