On a mountainside, Ash and Dawn separate to fetch water and berries, respectively, for lunch. Dawn has not gotten far when she notices a large cave on the side of the mountain and calls out to Ash. There is a sign outside the cave saying that there is a Master Ball at the end of the cave, but there are also monsters inside. Ash is unafraid and the two proceed into the cave. As they walk, a mysterious hand appears between them and grabs Ash. Startled, Ash drops the flashlight. Dawn picks it up and makes a face with the light, teasing him for being afraid. They continue walking, but Dawn suddenly stops, saying she hears a baby crying. She turns to Ash and says the baby is right behind him, and Ash notices a small hand on his shoulder. He spasms and knocks into what is truly behind him - a Mismagius holding a toy hand. Ash realizes that all of the scary things have been an illusion, and Pikachu uses Thunderbolt on Mismagius. The trainers make it out of the cave, shaken and upset that the Master Ball was a lie as well. They return to the campsite... to find Dawn sitting alone, eating the berries she collected. Ash turns around in shock, and realizes the Dawn that had been with him is gone. Dawn asks why he is so startled, and he stutters that they had just been together in the cave. As he turns to point toward it, he sees that the cave is gone. Two Mismagius grin in the distance, one having been disguised as Dawn.
