Mr. Berlitz is a character in Pokémon Adventures and Platinum's father.
Character
Mr. Berlitz is the assistant to Professor Rowan. As such, he helps him out in many of his researches that he does.
History
Mr. Berlitz debuts in the beginning of the Diamond & Pearl arc, bumping into Diamond and Pearl. He told Professor Rowan about a comedy competition in Jubilife City. Later, the Advanced level Grunt arrived and spied on Mr. Berlitz and Professor Rowan. Mr. Berlitz forgot something and gets it on his own. However, before he did so, the same grunt who was spying on the two flashed a picture of Platinum. He claimed that she was abducted and has Mr. Berlitz pay ransom money in order to bail her out. Mr. Berlitz wasn't convinced about Paka and Uji being kidnapped but the Advanced level Grunt showed him proof regarding the two bodyguard's defeat.
With no other choice, Mr. Berlitz paid the ransom money. Byron stumbled upon the two and jumped in to stop the grunt. Professor Rowan stepped in as well as he wondered why Mr. Berlitz took long to meet back up with him. When so many people came by, the grunt retreated and trapped Mr. Berlitz and Professor Rowan in a cube while Byron managed to avoid getting trapped. Byron took the two back to his Gym in order to free them but he couldn't find a way to do so. Platinum, hearing about the news, headed over to Canalave City along with Diamond and Pearl to rescue her father. Byron told them the truth about what happened when they arrived.
Mr. Berlitz was eventually freed from the cage as the Advanced level Grunt didn't see any reason to make them suffer more than necessary. While Platinum was about to leave the next morning, she announced that she was going to stop the evil residing in Sinnoh. Mr. Berlitz refused to allow Platinum to do such a task as he found it to be too dangerous for her to handle. Platinum became determined to prove her father that she could handle it. Byron tested her when his Bronzong used Extrasensory. After Rapidash stopped the attack, Mr. Berlitz changed his mind and allowed her to go on her journey with Diamond and Pearl escorting her.
Later, when Dialga and Palkia were fighting, both Mr. Berlitz and Professor Rowan join Byron and the Underground Man in the final battle against Team Galactic. The two researched the Space-Time distortion that went on by using a machine to monitor the whole thing.
