Miltank (Japanese: ミルタンク Miltank) is a Normal-type Pokémon.

She is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Biology

Physiology

Miltank is a mostly pink colored bipedal cow with blue eyes, small horns and a long, cream-colored tail with a black ball in the end. She has a cream colored belly with four udders. There are black spots on her back as well as a black "hood".

Gender differences

Miltank is a female-only species. Many fans consider its male counterpart to be Tauros, despite the facts that Tauros was introduced a generation earlier and that Miltank cannot produce Tauros Eggs.

Special abilities

Miltank is the only known Pokémon that learns Milk Drink. The milk that it produces is very nutritious and can be used to heal Pokémon.

Behavior

Unlike Tauros, Miltank are much more placid Pokémon and spend most of their time eating and digesting grass and other plants. However, they also possess a stubborn streak that may be unwilling to comply if they don't receive the proper training required. When properly trained, they can be a very useful asset, both in milking and battling.

Habitat

Miltank are happiest in fresh pastures.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Miltank are herbivores. They mostly consume grass, which they convert into milk. Miltank are also known to eat Berries and Poffins, provided usually by Trainers unless they have been left lying around.

In Got Miltank?, a Miltank was guarding an area that was for Pokémon only.

Four Miltank appeared in Tanks for the Memories!. One under Autumn's ownership, nicknamed "Ilta" (ルータン Rūtan), two under Spring's and another one under Summer's.

Minor appearances

Multiple Miltank were seen at Professor Oak's Laboratory in Bulbasaur... the Ambassador!.

A picture of a Miltank appeared in Hocus Pokémon.

A Miltank appeared on the side of a truck in Entei at Your Own Risk.

Harrison also has a Miltank, but he has only been seen using her to quell an argument between Ash's Bulbasaur and Squirtle and Vincent's Meganium and Azumarill during the Silver Conference in Tie One On!.

Solana enlisted the help of a wild Miltank in Pokémon Ranger: Deoxys Crisis.

In the manga

In the Pokémon Adventures manga

Miltank is seen as Whitney's main Pokémon powerhouse, which she used in a bike race with Gold but ended up breaking her arm after being kidnapped by a wild Rhydon. She later took it to the Mahogany Gym with DJ Mary and her crew in Volume 12, and used it to fight a moving sculpture that they believe was Suicune, where it failed even with an ice floor-augmented Rollout attack, and had to team up with Pryce to win.

She later uses it in the Pokémon League Gym Leader tournament against Misty, but her Starmie takes it out with ease.

Earlier, in the MooMoo Farm, Eusine also healed a Miltank in Volume 10. Although he feigned the ability to heal Pokémon with magic, Crystal revealed that all he did was use a berry to restore its HP.

In the Pokémon Gold & Silver: The Golden Boys manga

Main article: Whitney's Miltank

One of Whitney's main Pokémon in Pokémon Gold & Silver: The Golden Boys is a Miltank.

In the Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga

Red was revealed to have a Miltank in PM067.

Giovanni stole five Miltank during PM068. Professor Oak was able to rescue them from Giovanni and takes them under his control.

Whitney also has a Miltank as shown in PM084.

Trivia

  • Miltank has the highest base Defense of all non-legendary Normal-type Pokémon at 105.
  • Miltank has different spots on its in-game sprite in every generation.
  • Miltank's Silver and FireRed Pokédex entries imply that Miltank gives live birth like real-world mammals, despite Pokémon Eggs being introduced in the same generation as the former. This may be the reason why the entry was altered in SoulSilver.
  • Miltank is the only known Pokémon to faint outside of battle by use of a non-battle move.
    • This occurs when using its signature move, Milk Drink. When her current HP is exactly 1/5 its max HP, using Milk Drink to give energy to another Pokémon causes Miltank to have 0 HP, and thus faint. This is not announced to the player though Miltank's line takes on the "faint" coloration on-screen.

Origin

Miltank is based on female cattle. It shares many traits with jersey cattle, a kind of dairy cow.

Name origin

Miltank is a combination of milk and tank (a storage container for liquid). Tank may also refer to her tank-like defense stats.
