− | ===Physiology=== |
− | Milotic |
+ | Milotic is an aquatic, serpentine Pokémon with a primarily cream-colored body. It has red eyes with long, pinkish antennae above them. Additionally, there are long, hair-like fins above its eyes, which begin thin and thicken towards the tips. These eyebrows extend to almost half of Milotic's body length and will be longer on the female than the male. On top of its relatively small head is a straight spike. Running down either side of its neck are three black dots, similar to gills. Its lower body is a pattern of blue and pink, diamond-shaped scales outlined with black. The tail consists of four large, blue fins with pink ovals in their centers. Each of the tail fins overlaps the next slightly, causing it to resemble a fan. Milotic's scales are said to change color depending on the viewing angle, which has so far only been depicted in Pokémon Battle Revolution. |
+ | Milotic is said to be the most beautiful of all Pokémon. In fact, it is said to have inspired many artists in their works. However there're Trainers who prefer Feebas over it, seemingly disappointed after it evolves from said Pokémon. When there are fights going on, it has the power to calm angry feelings and end arguments by releasing a wave of energy. In addition, it can move by floating in the air as shown in the anime. It lives at the bottom of List of Pokémon by habitat. |
− | ====Gender differences==== |
− | The female's eyebrow fins are longer than the male's. Also, in Platinum the female's antennae are colored blue when it is Shiny. This is apparently a coloring error, as Milotic's female sprite in HeartGold and SoulSilver has the normal red like the male's. |

− | ====Special abilities==== |
+ | ===Main series=== |
− | Milotic have the ability to calm their enemies by removing their negative feelings, this suggests that they possess empathetic abilities similar to some species of Psychic Pokémon. |

− | In Pokémon Adventures, Ruby's Feebas evolved into Milotic after Ruby declared that it had inner beauty in the climax of the Ruby & Sapphire. This both shocked and touched the boy, as earlier, in 16, Mr. Briney had shown him a picture of one, making Ruby want to find one for himself, which he searched for quite a while in Granite Cave. With its increased power, it was used in the counterattack against the evil leaders Maxie and Archie, and succeeded in driving them away for Ruby's Ruby (Adventures) and Sapphire's Sapphire (Adventures) to deliver the finishing blow. |

==Trivia== |
==Trivia== |
+ | * In the official Prima Strategy Guide for Ruby and Sapphire, Milotic's Ability was mistakenly listed as Torrent. |
− | * In the anime, all of the Milotic that appeared were under the ownership of a Pokémon Coordinator or a Frontier Brain. |
+ | * Milotic seems to be a counterpart of Gyarados. Both are the serpentine evolved forms of weak fish Pokémon, and both appear in times of conflict, Milotic to calm, Gyarados to destroy. Both have base stat totals of 540, sharing the same HP, Defense, and Speed stats with Attack, Special Attack and Special Defense stats sharing the same values but in a different arrangement. |
− | * In the official Prima Strategy Guide for Ruby and Sapphire, Milotic was erroneously stated to have the Torrent ability. |
+ | ** Milotic may also be a version of Gyarados oriented to Pokémon Contests, since it was introduced in the third generation where Pokémon Contests debuted. This is fortified by Milotic's emphasis being on its beauty, while Gyarados' emphasis is on its power. In addition, Milotic is strongly associated with Pokémon Contests in the anime; all known male Top Coordinators have a Milotic as their signature Pokémon. |
− | * In many ways, Milotic is the counterpart of Gyarados. Both are the serpentine evolved forms of weak fish Pokémon, and both appear in times of conflict, Milotic to becalm, Gyarados to destroy. Both have base stat totals of 540, the only difference being the distribution of their stats: Milotic is more defensively based while Gyarados is more offensively based. |
+ | * Milotic is tied with Gyarados for the greatest increase in base stat total after evolving, at 340 points. |
− | ** It is also possible it is meant to be a contest version of Gyarados - because Gyarados was introduced in the first generation, and Milotic was introduced in the third generation with Pokémon contests. This is fortified by Milotic's emphasis being on its beauty, while Gyarados' emphasis is on its power. |
+ | * In HeartGold and SoulSilver, it is possible to evolve Feebas into Milotic without trading, even though no Poffin can be obtained and used in the game. This is done by visiting the Haircut brothers in Goldenrod City or by talking to Daisy in order to groom Feebas, which not only helps to raise its friendship, but also raises its Beauty. This is subtly stated by the brothers and Daisy in the games, but cannot be checked unless the Feebas is traded to Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum. However, this cannot raise Feebas's Beauty if its sheen is too high. |
− | ** Milotic has the greatest increase of its base stat total of any Pokémon compared to its prevolution, an increase of 340 points. It shares this distinction with Gyarados. |
+ | * Milotic is the only Pokemon in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon (WiiWare) games that is unobtainable without evolving a Pokemon in some way be that by a Feebas getting a KO as an enemy Pokemon or by evolving it normally, if Pal Passwords are excluded. |
− | * Milotic is the only Pokémon so far to have a particular gender difference visible only in its Shiny form. In Platinum, female Shiny Milotic have blue eyebrows while males have red ones. This is apparently a coloring error, as all other sprites from the Generation IV and Generation V games have the normal red. Considering that the HeartGold and SoulSilver sprites of all other Generation III Pokémon remain unchanged from Platinum, this is highly likely to be the case. |
− | * In , it is possible to evolve Feebas into Milotic, even though Pokémon Super Contests don't exist in the game. This is done by visiting the Haircut brothers in Goldenrod or by talking to Daisy in order to groom Feebas, which not only helps to raise its happiness, but also raises its Beauty. This is not displayed anywhere in-game, and the Pokémon must be viewed in Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum in order for the change to be visible. |
− | * Although Milotic's Pokémon Sapphire Pokédex entry states its body glows pink, its Pokémon Emerald sprite depicts it as glowing blue. |
− | * Milotic, along with Gyarados and Kingdra, has the highest base stat total of any non-legendary Water Pokémon. |
− | * Milotic is also the only Pokémon that has two completely different ways of evolving from another generation (excluding Espeon and Umbreon from spinoff games). |
− | * Although Contest conditions are nonexistent in Generation V (and Milotic is intended to be evolved from a Feebas holding a Prism Scale), a Feebas with maximum Beauty in a Generation IV game will still evolve if sent to a Generation V game and leveled up. |

===Origin=== |
===Origin=== |
+ | Milotic seems to be based on a sea serpent and a mermaid due to its hair-like fins, pale upper body, and scaly lower body. It is also similar to an oarfish, which have very long bodies and red fins. Its gills are similar to those of Cyclostomata. Its tail fin resembles a hand fan, and its colorful scales resemble stained glass. Its feminine appearance and history of being depicted in art indicate that it may be inspired by Venus (mythology), the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Its drastic transformation after evolving from Feebas may be inspired by the classic fairy tale The Ugly Duckling, where a small and feeble duckling is treated as an outcast by other animals until it eventually grows up to be a beautiful swan. |
− | Milotic may be based loosely on sirens, mythical creatures who can hypnotize with their voice to make men attracted to them. An argument can also be made for the possibility it is loosely based on Loch Ness Monster and popular culture. Its similarity to Dragonair suggests as basis in sea serpents or sea dragons as well. It has anatomical similarities with the oarfish, with a pale, elongated body and extended, red dorsal fins. |

Milotic (Japanese: ミロカロス Milokaross) is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.
It evolves from Feebas when leveled up with its Beautiful condition high enough, or (from Generation V onward) when traded while holding a Prism Scale.
Biology
Milotic is an aquatic, serpentine Pokémon with a primarily cream-colored body.
Milotic is said to be the most beautiful of all Pokémon. It lives at the bottom of large lakes.

Trophy information
NA: Have you ever noticed how anyone who's seen a Milotic just can't seem to describe how beautiful it is? Words just can't do it justice. Even that says a lot about its appearance, doesn't it? If you really wanted to compliment someone, you could say "You're looking Milotic this fine day!"
PAL: Have you ever noticed how anyone who's seen a Milotic just can't seem to describe how beautiful it is? Maybe words can't do it justice. We'll have to add "Milotic" to the dictionary as a brand-new word. But then...how would you define it? Maybe you'd need an illustrated dictionary...
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Milotic appears as a Spirit.

Trivia
- In the official Prima Strategy Guide for Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Milotic's Ability was mistakenly listed as Torrent.
- Milotic seems to be a counterpart of Gyarados.
- Milotic may also be a version of Gyarados oriented to Pokémon Contests, since it was introduced in the third generation where Pokémon Contests debuted. This is fortified by Milotic's emphasis being on its beauty, while Gyarados' emphasis is on its power. In addition, Milotic is strongly associated with Pokémon Contests in the anime; all known male Top Coordinators have a Milotic as their signature Pokémon.
- Milotic is tied with Gyarados for the greatest increase in base stat total after evolving, at 340 points.
- In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, it is possible to evolve Feebas into Milotic without trading, even though no Poffin can be obtained and used in the game.
- Milotic is the only Pokemon in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon (WiiWare) games that is unobtainable without evolving a Pokemon in some way be that by a Feebas getting a KO as an enemy Pokemon or by evolving it normally, if Pal Passwords are excluded.
Origin
Milotic seems to be based on a sea serpent and a mermaid due to its hair-like fins, pale upper body, and scaly lower body. It is also similar to an oarfish, which have very long bodies and red fins. Its gills are similar to those of lampreys and hagfishes. Its tail fin resembles a hand fan, and its colorful scales resemble stained glass. Its feminine appearance and history of being depicted in art indicate that it may be inspired by Venus, the Roman goddess of love and beauty. Its drastic transformation after evolving from Feebas may be inspired by the classic fairy tale The Ugly Duckling, where a small and feeble duckling is treated as an outcast by other animals until it eventually grows up to be a beautiful swan.
Name origin
Milotic may be a combination of Venus de Milo (a sculpture known for its beauty) and aquatic, melodic, exotic, or lotic (a river ecosystem).
Milokaross may be a combination of Venus de Milo and κάλλος kállos (Greek for beauty) or Charis (Greek goddesses of grace and beauty).
