Mewtwo may also be based on {{wp|Giegue}} (Giygas), the main anatagonist of the Japan-only {{wp|Mother (video game)}} , before his body and soul were destroyed by its own PSI powers in {{wp|EarthBound (series)}}. Since many people working for APE.inc, including Benimaru Itoh, went on to Game Freak to create the Pokémon Series, it is possible that Mewtwo may be based on Giegue. Also from Mother, EVE, a space alien virus, share this cliché with {{p|Deoxys}}.
