Era 2014–2016

Mega Manectric EX was a Pokémon Trading Card Game deck archetype mainly played in the 2014-2015 season, becoming a contender during the 2015-2016 season. The deck's strategy revolved around M Manectric-EX's Attack attaching basic energies to Benched Pokémon, being able to constantly retreat attackers and deny Prize cards. Mega Manectric EX ranked 4th and 6th place in Seniors division at the 2015 Pokémon Trading Card Game World Championships, but also had decent results in other events.

Strategy

M Manectric-EX's Turbo Bolt attack dealt damage while attaching two basic energy cards from the discard pile to the player's benched Pokémon. This attack could knock out any Pokémon without healing support or damage reduction in two attacks and offered a hit-and-run strategy, where a M Manectric-EX would power up another benched M Manectric, retreat when badly damaged (notably, M Manectric had no retreat cost) and prevent the opponent from taking prize cards that turn if it could not play Lysandre. Its basic stage, Manectric-EX, could also punish opposing Pokémon with attached tool cards, being sometimes a reliable attacker without needing to evolve. Because the Turbo Bolt attack cost was relatively cheap, the deck could fit secondary non-  attackers to benefit from the energy attachment effect, such as in Josh Fernando's M Manectric-EX/Terrakion variant in Worlds 2015.

Key cards

  • M Manectric-EX - M Manectric-EX Turbo Bolt attack dealt 110 damage while attaching two basic energy cards to a benched Pokémon, usually another M Manectric-EX. As a   Pokémon, it had a favorable matchup against Pokémon weak to this type such as Yveltal-EX.
  • Rough Seas - Discarded other Stadium cards and healed 30 damage from the player's   and   Pokémon per turn, allowing the Pokémon to survive more attacks.
  • Professor Juniper and Ultra Ball - Staple Trainers that could purposely discard energies from the hand during the first turns and benefit from Turbo Bolt.

Possible tech cards

The following cards are often used in Mega Manectric EX in place of certain cards included in the above lists.

  • Due to the ease of using Turbo Bolt's for    and its energy acceleration, many secondary attackers could be included on the decklists, even non-  Pokémon. Popular choices were Zapdos, Terrakion, Articuno, Keldeo-EX, Aegislash-EX and Yveltal-EX.
  • Garbodor - Garbodor's Garbotoxin Ability could shut down all other Abilites, which this deck did not rely much, with a Tool card attached to it.
