They are visible in the [[Pokémon Storage System]] and on the Pokémon [[Menu#Pokémon|summary screen]]. They were introduced in the [[Generation III]] games.

Pokémon can be marked with any combination of markings. A Pokémon will keep its marking settings if traded to another Trainer. Markings can be freely adjusted, even by Trainers that are not the Pokémon's [[Original Trainer]].
