Era 2007-2008

Magdol is a deck archetype in the Pokémon Trading Card Game based around Magmortar and Claydol. It was widely used in Play! Pokémon due to its brute strength and uncommon effectiveness against another dominant deck in its format, Gardevoir/Gallade.

Key cards

  • Magmortar - The main attacker for the deck. It has two powerful attacks, Flame Blast and Fireball Bazooka. Flame Blast is effective for heavily damaging the opponent's Active Pokémon, while Fireball Bazooka hits the Bench while still damaging the Active Pokémon. All around, Magmortar is a strong offensive Pokémon.
  • Claydol - Claydol's Poké-Power, Cosmic Power, allows a player to shuffle up to two cards from their hand into their deck, and then draw cards until they have six cards in their hand. In addition to being a good drawing card, it virtually eliminates the need for Supporter cards in the deck. This is beneficial because Gardevoir/Gallade's main strategy revolves around using the opponent's Supporters against them. If Magdol isn't using Supporters, Gardevoir/Gallade's strategy grinds to a halt.
  • Magmortar LV.X - In the deck as a major late-game attacker. If the Magdol player only has one or two Prizes left or needs to Knock Out a key component in their opponent's strategy to win, Magmortar LV.X can come through with a massive 100 damage to any Pokémon in play, which could seal a victory.
