The Kanto region has a very temperate climate and not many notable landscape features, though this may be due to the region's origins in the Generation I games.

Like in the games, Kanto was the first region ever introduced in the anime, debuting in Pokémon - I Choose You!. It is the home region of Ash Ketchum and three of his traveling companions; Misty, Brock, and Go.
Three series have featured Kanto as their main setting. In the first portion of the original series, Ash traveled through Kanto to collect eight Badges and compete in the Indigo Plateau Conference. In the latter portion of the Advanced Generation, Ash traveled through Kanto again, this time to compete at the Battle Frontier facilities spread throughout the region, accompanied by Brock, May, and Max. In the new series, Ash and Go mainly stay in Kanto in between their trips to other regions.
Kanto is also featured in every other series, as Ash always returns to his home in Pallet Town each time he completes a regional journey.

The Kanto region debuted at the beginning of the manga, in A Glimpse of a Glow. It is the home region of Red, Green, and Yellow.
During the Red, Green & Blue chapter, Red and Blue traveled across Kanto in preparation for competing in the Pokémon League. Along the way, they also foiled various nefarious schemes carried out by Team Rocket. At the end of the chapter, Red succeeded in defeating Blue at the Pokémon League finals, making him a Champion.
Yellow
Kanto was also the main setting for the Yellow chapter. Three years after the previous chapter, Red disappears after having received a mysterious battle challenge. Yellow set out to find him, and ended up battling against the villainous Elite Four, who were not only the ones responsibile behind Red's disappearance, but also planned to create a utopia for Pokémon by erasing most of humanity. In the end, Yellow managed to defeat their leader, Lance, and thus restore peace to the region.

* Until the release of Gold and Silver, Kanto's name was seen only once in the Japanese Generation I games: upon viewing the Town Map at Blue's house. It was never mentioned in the Generation I games outside of Japan, and thus many fans assumed the region was called "Indigo", based on the name of the Indigo Plateau. By the time the Generation III remakes, FireRed and LeafGreen, were released, Kanto's name was firmly established and appeared regularly in-game.
