Kanoa (Japanese: カノア Kanoa) is a recurring character in the Pokémon anime. He and his girlfriend Ida belong to the Seafolk, a group of people who travel around the seas of the world. To fund their travels, Kanoa is an underwater treasure hunter and also features in Ida's street performances.

History

While stopping in Hau'oli City in Balloons, Brionne, and Belligerence!, Kanoa had not been able to find any treasure, despite his best efforts. In order to make an income, Ida decided to perform on the streets with her Brionne. While doing so, she and Kanoa met up with Ash, Lana, and Mallow.

Days later, Kanoa discovered that a Mystic Water could be found in a sunken ship off the coast of Melemele Island. He went to retrieve it along with Ida, Ash, Lana and Mallow but discovered that it was guarded by a wild Dhelmise. After Lana successfully scared the Dhelmise off with her Popplio using their newly perfected Z-Move Hydro Vortex, Kanoa was able to collect the Mystic Water. He gave it to Ida as a present, and afterwards they said their farewells to Ash, Lana and Mallow as they set off to their next destination.

He reappeared in Evolving Research!, where he and Ida met up with Lana and her classmates again in Seafolk Village. Kanoa revealed that he and Ida would embark on a journey the next day in search of more treasure. He was later present at his and Ida's farewell party. The next morning, Ida gave Lana her very own Primarium Z Crystal after Kanoa located a second one on the seafloor. The two left Poni Island again after bidding farewell to Lana and her classmates.

Kanoa is a free spirited individual who enjoys surfing and his Seafolk lifestyle. He is particularly knowledgeable about the dangers within the sea and captains his Steelix house boat with confidence.
