Iris's Dragonite (Japanese: アイリスのカイリュー Iris's Kairyu) is the fourth Pokémon that Iris obtained.
History
Dragonite first appeared in Iris and the Rogue Dragonite! where it was chasing down a Hydreigon. The Hydreigon wounded its wing sending it crashing down into a lake. Dragonite became airborne again but was descending because of its injury. Eventually it hit a terminal of a power plant causing a blackout in Undella Town. Though it was just an accident, the workers at the power plant believed it to be intentional. Wanting to escape the workers, Dragonite entered the power plant and barricaded itself in a room using Ice Beam to seal itself in the room. It curled up on the floor to rest in order to recuperate.
Hearing about the story of Dragonite from Officer Jenny, Iris refused to believe that it caused the blackout purposefully. Later she, Ash, and Dawn infiltrated the power plant and found Dragonite. It struck out at them and Piplup and Oshawott were used to keep it at bay until Meloetta came in and soothed it with its voice. Afterwards it collapsed again because of its injuries. While Ash and Dawn went to inform Officer Jenny, Iris was able to read its heart and saw that the injury caused by Hydreigon caused its flying to be hindered, thus accidentally crashing into the terminal.
Despite this, Officer Jenny rallied a group of Trainers to take down Dragonite. Iris threw herself in front of Dragonite in order to protect it from them just long enough for Ash and his friends to return with surveillance footage to prove Dragonite's innocence. At the end of the day, just before Dragonite was about to leave, it looked back at Iris. Cilan suggested that perhaps Dragonite wished to be Iris's Pokémon and allowed itself to be captured by her.
In Jostling for the Junior Cup!, Iris used it in the first round of the Pokémon World Tournament Junior Cup against Georgia's Beartic. Despite being ordered by Iris to dodge Beartic's Hidden Power, Dragonite stood in place and knocked it back swiftly. It ignored Iris again and chose to shield itself from Beartic's Focus Blast head on with its hands. Surprisingly, it even stood their and took an Ice Beam attack and refused to defend against a second with Flamethrower. In reaction to Iris's calls, Dragonite broke out of the ice it had been incased in and began charging towards Beartic. Though it ran straight into its opponent's Blizzard, Dragonite hit Beartic with ThunderPunch. The single hit won the match, though Iris nor Goergia were happy with it. In the next episode, Dragonite was used against Dawn's Mamoswine in the second round. Despite another type disadvantage and continued disobedience, Dragonite defeated Mamoswine with its new move, Dragon Rush, giving Iris the win.
Dragonite is used in Ash, Iris and Trip: Then There Were Three! to battle Ash's Krokorok. Initially, it appeared that Dragonite had the upper hand and seemed to be obeying Iris's commands, but after Krokorok evolved into Krookodile, and learned a new move, Dragon Claw, the tables turned. Realizing this, Dragonite went berserk and stopped obeying Iris once again, causing major damage to the stadium and field. However, with more powerful attacks from the evolution, Krookodile was able to defeat Dragonite and secure the win for Ash. After the defeat, Dragonite was seen to be more depressed than usual.
In Unova's Survival Crisis!, Dragonite was sent out to battle the Kami trio. As usual it just took off without even waiting for Iris to say anything and ended up getting hurt in the process. When Iris tried to comfort Dragonite, it was still hesitant towards its new Trainer. However, once Iris stepped in front of Dragonite to block Thundurus's attack, it started to see that Iris really did care for it. After Iris gained its trust, she commanded Dragonite to go help the other Pokémon fight the trio and was able to hold them off so that Ash could stop Giovanni.
In BW100, Iris sent Dragonite out to meet the Elder at the Village of Dragons. Straight away, Dragonite picked a fight with a wild Haxorus that was resting near by. In the midst of their close combat, the Elder came between them. After she had calmed Haxorus, she did the same to Dragonite by massaging its stomach. Later, when Shōbu's newly evolved Hydreigon lost control of itself, Dragonite teamed up with Emolga to chase the Brutal Pokémon across the lake and corner it on shore.
In BW101, Iris used Dragonite during her battle against Drayden and his Druddigon. Dragonite's starting move, ThunderPunch, was easily blocked the Cave Pokémon, which then hit back with a fierce Dragon Claw, hurting Dragonite. Despite of this, it was still strong enough to counter Druddigon's following Flash Cannon attack with Flamethrower. When it attempted to use ThunderPunch again, Druddigon used Double Team to hide itself. However, with Iris's loyal support, the Dragon Pokémon was able to identify the real Druddigon in the middle of the copies, and land a successful hit on it with ThunderPunch. Iris followed right away with an Ice Beam attack, which made a direct hit, but, much to everyone's surprise, Druddigon merely repelled the ice from its body, even though the move was supposed to be super effective. Iris then told Dragonite to attack with Dragon Rush, but Druddigon was easily able to intercept the attack, throw Dragonite away, and then serve the finishing blow with a strong Dragon Tail, causing Iris to lose the match.
Personality and characteristics
Dragonite is the kind of Pokémon that is ready and willing to take on all opponents. Its hostile facial expression notably sets it apart from all other Dragonite. Though it is tough, it may have a certain soft spot for Iris as it let itself be captured easily. However, as seen in Jostling for the Junior Cup!, it isn't so ready to listen to her commands. Slowly but surely Dragonite started trusting its Trainer, from its first battle against Georgia's Beartic, which it didn't listen to Iris at all, to Battling Authority Once Again! in which Dragonite only listened to Iris's first command against Dawn's Manoswine, then Ash, Iris and Trip: Then There Were Three! where Dragonite listened to all of Iris's orders against Ash's Krokorok until it evolved into Krookodile and hit it with its newly learned Dragon Claw. By Unova's Survival Crisis!, Dragonite understood its trainers feelings, and then from then on, it started to obey Iris.
Even though it began to follow Iris's commands, Dragonite still maintains its hostile nature outside of battles, as seen in BW100 which Dragonite noticed a wild Haxorus and immediately picked a fight with it.

Trivia
- Dragonite is the first pseudo-legendary Pokémon owned by a main character, though Ash owns Gible, which evolves into a pseudo-legendary.
- Dragonite is the first non-Generation V Pokémon to be caught in Unova by a main character during the Best Wishes series.
- Dragonite is the first fully evolved second evolution Pokémon to be caught in the wild by a main character, and the second one acquired overall at their final stage, the first being Dawn's Togekiss.
- Dragonite is currently Iris's only Pokémon to have an unconfirmed gender.
