Hoopa (Japanese: フーパ Hoopa) is a featured Pokémon in Hoopa and the Clash of Ages. It also starred in the Hoopa's Appear Plan!! shorts alongside Ash and Pikachu, leading up to the movie's release.

History

Many years prior to the events of the movie, Hoopa appeared in its Unbound Form and went on a rampage. Its rampage would destroy Désert City due to the clash between the many Legendary Pokémon it summoned. However, Ghris soon sealed it into a Prison Bottle to stop its rage and confine its power, and thus from then on Hoopa would appear in a much smaller form.

Hoopa first appeared in the shorts of Hoopa's Appear Plan!!. In this series of six shorts, Hoopa used its hyperspace powers to cause trouble for Ash and Pikachu.

Hoopa reappeared as the central Pokémon of Hoopa and the Clash of Ages. During the events of the movie, Hoopa would be taken care of by Ghris's great-grandchildren, Barza and Mary in the Arche Valley. Hoopa can be seen playing with the siblings in their youth in SS034. It would later appear before Ash and his friends and pull a prank on Ash. With its simple-mindedness and innocence, Hoopa would cheerfully refer to Ash and Pikachu as "Ashkan" and "Pikan". It uses the power of its two rings to summon a wide variety of things, such as its favorite food donuts, showcasing its power.

Later, in Désert City, Mary's older brother Barza is encountered, but he is suddenly possessed by the power of the Prison Bottle. Under its control, Hoopa is suddenly entangled by the power of the Prison Bottle, and through Hoopa, its Unbound form appears via Hoopa's power. The Unbound Hoopa, known as Super Hoopa, had changed into "Rage" over the time of its confinement, and would appear again and summon six Legendary Pokémon through its six rings: Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, and Kyurem, who proceed to terrorize the city once more.

Hoopa, determined to fight off its enraged Unbound Form, would use its rings to summon its own slew of Legendary Pokémon - Lugia, Latias, Latios, and a Shiny Rayquaza, who would fight the other Pokémon in the city. With Ash and Pikachu's help, Hoopa and its friends battled the shadowy counterpart, during which Latias, Latios, and Rayquaza all Mega Evolved.

Personality and characteristics

Hoopa, in its Confined form, is a very simple-minded, innocent Pokémon who loves to pull pranks on unsuspecting people. It playfully referred to Ash and Pikachu as "Ashkan" and "Pikan", and would use its ability to summon everything and anything for its own amusement. Despite its playful and mischievous nature, Hoopa has a good heart and is capable of protecting its friends when the time is needed.

Its Unbound form, which appeared as a separate entity, appears to be a Pokémon that is almost always full of rage and willing to destroy. It used its power to summon anything in order to terrorize Désert City and would terrorize the city again once it was freed. It also appears to have the power to possess other people through the Prison Bottle. It possessed and controlled both Barza and Ash, making them both evil.
