The hippie is a character of the day in the Pokémon anime. Since he was not given a name, this article will refer to him as the hippie.
The hippie's sole appearance was in Wake Up, Snorlax!. While walking down a lonely road, the hippie played a Poké Flute for Ash and his friends. They were grateful to the hippie and continued along their way. He also played for Team Rocket but they were less than impressed.
When Ash and the others discovered that the town's food wasn't growing because a Snorlax was blocking the water, they immediately ran to the hippie. He revealed that the Snorlax was his Pokémon. After hearing of the situation in the nearby town, the hippie played his Poké Flute, and Snorlax awakened.
The hippie is just a regular old man in the Japanese version.

| The hippie was known for having at least seven Snorlax. One of them was sleeping near the area that the water came and prevented the water from flowing. The only way Snorlax could wake up was to play the Poké Flute as shown on the card it was sleeping on. The hippie came by and woke it up with his Poké Flute. The water still wasn't running. The source of the problem was that the thorns were in the way. It turns out that the Snorlax sleeping there actually liked thorns and eats them, clearing a path for the river to flow through. | ||
