 Heracross is most likely based on the {{wp|Japanese rhinoceros beetle|kabutomushi}}, a very popular species of {{wp|rhinoceros beetle}} found in Japan and other parts of Asia. These beetles are known for their use in incredible strength, and use in {{wp|insect fighting}}, which explains its {{type2|Fighting}}.
-Heracross although named after {{wp|Hercules}}<!-- Roman --> his origin actually appears closer to {{wp|Antaeus}}<!-- Roman --> a rival of Hercules. {{wp|Antaeus}}<!-- Roman --> was a Wrestler who was invincible and super strong as long as he was touching the ground (His mother {{wp|Gaia}}<!-- Roman -->). Hercules defeated him by lifting him into the air where he was very weak, this might explain both Heracross' types Fighting-type and Bug-type which make him 4x weak to Flying-type attacks.
