Grass-type Pokémon:

Characteristics

Defensively, the Grass-type is best at defending against certain Template:Type2 Pokémon, such as Raikou and Jolteon. Many Electric-type Pokémon carry the move Hidden Power, usually of the Template:Type2, Template:Type2, or Template:Type2. If the Electric-type doesn't carry an Ice-type move, it may not have any moves that a Grass-type Pokémon isn't resistant to; at the most, the Electric-type can hit with a normal effectiveness move that doesn't benefit from same-type attack bonus, such as Crunch. The Grass-type isn't very good at defending against other Special types; Template:Type2 and Ice-type moves are commonly carried by special attackers, and Grass-types won't be able to switch into a move benefiting from same-type attack bonus and then be able to survive a super effective move.

When defending against Physical moves, the Grass-type has limited value. The Grass-type resists Template:Type2 moves, but has no resistance to Template:Type2 or Template:Type2 moves and is weak to Template:Type2 moves. A Grass-type can, however, utilize a Ground-type move or either a powerful super effective Grass-type move or a move like Sleep Powder to incapacitate the foe.

Offensively, Grass-type moves are limited. They are best at taking down Pokémon like Swampert and Rhydon on which they deal four times normal damage. For this reason, they are good in Mt. Moon and Rock Tunnel, which are populated by Geodude. However, too many Pokémon resist Grass-type moves to rely on them as a main form of dealing damage, and most Grass-type moves aren't very powerful.

Most Grass-types learn Leech Seed, and many learn Sleep Powder and Stun Spore. This makes Grass-types able to provide support to the rest of a team, and makes Grass-type Pokémon much harder to faint. Grass-types are also the only type with immunity to Leech Seed, which is often a valuable trait.
