GTSPlus, along with its trade station, was first launched in July 2007 with high hopes of becoming a Wi-Fi staple.  Despite offering a range of interactive features, activity stayed fairly low in its opening months. The site continued to grow however, further developing its Gallery and Pokédex in mid-2008 which garnered a rise in activity. Partly due to word of mouth, the forums became a commonplace for website and general Pokémon discussion at which point the total recorded trade-count had reached 100. Around late 2008 the website was upgraded to its current V2.0. Along with the upgrade came the ''interactive tab'', bringing about mass speculation as to what this button was for.

It was only until 2009 that activity really took off. Valentine's Day 2009, Febuary 14th, saw the launch of its sister site, Global Pokédex Plus. More casually referred to as GPXPlus or GPX+, the unique adoptables website allowed users to adopt Pokémon Eggs to hatch, raise, and evolve them through "clicking" other members' parties. This feature attracted a surprising amount of new members, and in just a few months the website garnered thousands of active members. With its continually growing member base, most of the website's updates are concentrated on GPXPlus. Special events were once held monthly, allowing members to obtain rare Legendary and Novelty Pokémon that are otherwise unobtainable. A new event system has been planned and announced, although it has yet to be implemented.

Special events were once held monthly, allowing members to obtain rare Legendary and Novelty Pokémon that are otherwise unobtainable; however, they have now been replaced by "Explorations". There are two types of Explorations with varied difficulty: "Special Explorations" can be very difficult and have higher requirements to start, while "Normal Explorations" will be more easily accessible. Different Explorations will be cycled in and out on a monthly basis, so if a member is unable to complete an exploration within the month that it is available they can try again the next time it comes around.
