Glimwood Tangle (Japanese: ルミナスメイズの森 Luminous Maze Forest) is a forest in the northwestern part of the Galar region. It lies between Stow-on-Side (to the south) and Ballonlea (to the north).

Geography

Glimwood Tangle is a forest with several, maze-like paths. Though perpetually dark, luminescent mushrooms provide small circles of light at various points on the paths; touching these mushrooms causes them to glow more brightly and expands the area that they light. The paths are divided into a southern and a northern group, connected only by the easternmost path. When entering the tangle from Stow-on-Side, the paths lead to a T-shaped fork. Taking the fork's western branch leads to a four-way intersection that connects (via the northern and southern exits) to a roughly circular path, with a ledge in the northern part of the circle; the western exit leads to a dead end. The fork's eastern branch leads to a curving path with two small, dead-end offshoots before connecting to the northern group of paths. The northern paths branch into four broad, overlapping circuits, with an oblong one north of the other three. Four ledges divide some areas of the paths: one between the westernmost and central lower circuits, one between the westernmost and northern circuits, and two on the northeastern corner of the northern circuit. On the eastern edge of the northern circuit sits a wide clearing, which connects to a path to the northeast that leads to Ballonlea.

Until the player has defeated Bede at Stow-on-Side, two Team Yell Grunts block the way through the forest.

In the anime

Glimwood Tangle in the anime

Glimwood Tangle first appeared in The Tale of You and Glimwood Tangle!. Chloe went there alongside Ash and Goh in search of a Galarian Ponyta and Rapidash. Whilst there, Goh spotted a Morelull and chased after it, causing him and Ash to become separated from Chloe. Goh eventually caught Morelull, and whilst trying to find Chloe, they wandered into Ballonlea and met Opal.

Chloe, meanwhile, encountered a Galarian Ponyta, who led her to an injured Galarian Rapidash. Chloe went off in search of a flower whose dew could heal Rapidash, only to run into a trio of Impidimp that stole her backpack. After a playful fight with Bluk Berries, Chloe retrieved her backpack and got the flower dew she had searched for, using it to heal Rapidash. As thanks for healing it, Rapidash let Chloe ride itself and took her to Ballonlea.

The forest reappeared in The Sweet Taste of Battle!, where Leon was seen interacting with some of the forest Pokémon on his way to Ballonlea, before admitting that he was completely lost.

In Must Be Our Heroes and the Witch!, Brock was lured into Glimwood Tangle by a Hatterene, which wanted to feed on the strong negative emotions of his latest heartbreak. Ash, Misty, and Cilan received help from a Hatenna in leading them to Brock, whom they were able to save.

Sword & Shield arc

Glimwood Tangle appeared in Shocking!! Reunion in the Forest. After it turned out that Allister had sneaked into Professor Magnolia's van due to his interest in her Antique Form Sinistea and Polteageist, the Pokémon Professor revealed that she had met them when her car had lost a tire while driving through the forest shortly before. Due to Professor Magnolia having forgotten to reset the route record on the van's auto driver, it ended up driving the exact same route as before and crashing again.

As the van stopped, Allister left it to explore the forest in the hopes of catching himself an Antique Form Sinistea and Polteageist as well, with Casey chasing after him. While doing so, she heard a familiar sound in the distance, which she recognized as the sound of her lost Toxtricity, Tera, who was engaged in a battle against a wild Drakloak. Due to being solely focused on the battle, Tera didn't pay any attention to Casey until it had defeated Drakloak, after which it happily rejoined its Trainer, while Allister caught the Drakloak for himself.
