Effect

Having 999 Gimmighoul Coins causes Gimmighoul to evolve into Gholdengo when it levels up (or, in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, is manually evolved), consuming the coins in the process.

Despite being categorized as a TM Material in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Gimmighoul Coins are not actually used to make any TMs.

Pokémon GO

In Pokémon GO, Gimmighoul Coins are used to evolve Gimmighoul into Gholdengo. Unlike other Evolution items, Gimmighoul Coins do not take up space in the player's Item Bag, and they cannot be discarded.

This item was originally called the ?????? Coin (Japanese: ??????コイン ?????? Coin) prior to February 27, 2023. It first became available on November 5, 2022, immediately following Community Day Classic: Dratini, and a day before Gimmighoul's name was officially revealed.[3]

Effect

A player can evolve a Gimmighoul into Gholdengo if they have at least 999 Gimmighoul Coins in their Item Bag. Candy is not used for this Evolution, making Gimmighoul the only Pokémon in the game that evolves without Candy.

Prior to February 27, 2023, as the ?????? Coin, this item was categorized as a Key Item and served no purpose in-game. Collecting one from a golden PokéStop caused a Roaming Form Gimmighoul to appear in the overworld, but it could not be caught until February 27, 2023.

Description

Games Description

For the repeatable methods listed, the number of coins received and whether any coins are received at all are random, unless noted otherwise.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series

Gimmighoul Coins first appeared in The Terapagos I Don't Know. One was first discovered by Ludlow, but was snatched from him almost immediately. Later, Roy collected a coin dropped by a Roaming Form Gimmighoul and went on collecting coins after being manipulated by a Chest Form Gimmighoul, who then took the coins and left.

With the addition of the same Chest Form Gimmighoul to the wild Pokémon roster living aboard the Brave Olivine in The Knight in the Ruins and, later, to Dot's team in Riding the Waves, Gimmighoul Coins became a recurring item in the series. In HZ120, after it finally managed to gather 1,000 coins, Dot's Gimmighoul evolved into Gholdengo.

Pokémon: Paldean Winds

A Gimmighoul Coin appeared in Breathe Out, where it was taken away by a Corviknight.
