'''Gary's cheerleaders''' (Japanese: '''シゲル応援ギャル''' ''Shigeru's cheering gals'') are a group of girls that follow around [[Gary Oak]] on his [[Pokémon]] journey. Their main purpose is to cheer Gary on, much like real-life {{wp|cheerleading|cheerleaders}} at sporting events. In the original Japanese, they are played by 大谷育江 ''[[Ikue Ohtani]]'', 飯塚雅弓 ''[[Mayumi Iizuka]]'', and others. They are all played by [[Veronica Taylor]] in the {{4Kids}} English dub.

They made their debut in [[EP001|the first episode]]. They were seen outside [[Professor Oak's Laboratory]] cheering for Gary as he received [[Gary's Blastoise|his starter]]. Their motto is "Gary, Gary, he's our man. If he can't do it, no one can! Go~ Gary!~♥".

His cheerleaders support Gary very much, and they are deeply hurt when he loses one of his {{pkmn|battle}}s. The girls burst into tears whenever Gary loses a match as seen in ''[[EP063|The Battle of the Badge]]'' and ''[[EP077|The Fourth Round Rumble]]''. 

The cheerleaders then disappeared for most of the [[Johto League]]. They finally reappeared in ''[[EP269|The Ties that Bind]]'' to cheer Gary on during his battle against {{Ash}} during the [[Silver Conference]]. Unlike the previous battles, they did not start crying when Gary lost to Ash. Gary appeared to finally get rid of them when he decided to become a {{g|researcher}} like his [[Professor Oak|grandfather]].

They have also had appearances in ''[[EP018|Beauty and the Beach]]'', ''[[EP031|Dig Those Diglett!]]'', ''[[EP046|Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon]]'', and ''[[EP058|Riddle Me This]]''.

==Trivia==
* In ''[[EP018|Beauty and the Beach]]'' one of the cheerleaders wore a bathing suit very similar to the one {{an|May}} wore in ''[[AG012|The Lotad Lowdown]]''. Both of these episodes were the first times the resident main characters were seen in swimwear, aside from Ash and Brock in the later. 
* One of the cheerleaders are one of two likely candidates who won the "Swimsuit Beauty Pageant", the other being Misty.
* In ''[[EP046|Attack of the Prehistoric Pokémon!]]'' when {{an|Jigglypuff}} wrote on the cheeleader's faces, the alphabet was used. However, the letters on their faces went in this order: ABCDFE, instead of ABCDEF.
