The Fairy type (Japanese: フェアリータイプ Fairy type) is one of the eighteen types. Notable Trainers who specialize in Fairy-type Pokémon include Valerie of Laverre City.
The Fairy type was introduced in Generation VI. As well as introducing new Pokémon with the Fairy type, 22 Pokémon were changed to Fairy types.

Characteristics
Defense
The Fairy type is widely considered to be one of the best defensive types in the game, along with Steel. It has a key resistance to the powerful Fighting types, as well as the Dark and Bug types, which means resistance to Knock Off and U-turn. Most of all, it also has a useful immunity to Dragon-type moves. Its only weaknesses are to Poison and Steel, both of which are rarely used offensively.
Offense
Fairy is very strong on offense as well. It is super-effective against Dragon, Fighting, and Dark, all of which were otherwise great types defensively. Though resisted by Fire, Poison, and Steel, Fire types still struggle defensively, Poison types are statistically weak, and Steel types struggle offensively. Additionally, all three of those types are weak to Ground, making a Fairy and Ground attacking combination effective. Fairy also pairs well with Ghost and Dark, with both combinations being resisted by only two Pokémon.
Pokémon
As of Generation VI, there are 35 Fairy-type Pokémon, or 4.8% of all Pokémon (counting forms and Mega Evolutions that change typing as different Pokémon), making it the second rarest Pokémon type, behind Ghost.

Abilities
Interacting with Fairy-type
User of Color Change will be changed into Fairy-type after it is hit with a Fairy-type move. Protean will change its user into Fairy-type when it uses a Fairy-type move. When a Pokémon with Multitype holds a Pixie Plate, it will become a Fairy-type Pokémon. When a Pokémon with Imposter is sent out and its opposite opponent is Fairy-type, it will transform into that Pokémon and turn into Fairy-type.

Trivia
- More Pokémon were changed to Fairy than either of the other types added since Generation I (the other two being Dark and Steel in Generation II), with 22. Also, more moves were changed to Fairy, with three. All three of them were introduced in Generation II and were previously Normal-type.
- It is also the only one out of the three types to completely change the types of Pokémon from previous generations, changing several previously pure Normal-type Pokémon, such as Snubbull, to pure Fairy.
- The types that resist Fairy (Poison, Steel, and Fire) are weak to Ground; however, some type combinations such as Fire/Flying, Poison/Flying, and Steel/Flying resist both because of the Flying type's immunity to Ground.
