Energy Retrieval (Japanese: エネルギー回収 Energy Recovery) is an Item card. It was first released as part of the Base Set as a Trainer card.

Release information

This card was included in the Base Set as a Trainer card with artwork by Keiji Kinebuchi, first released in the Japanese Expansion Pack. This print was later reprinted in the Base Set 2 expansion, the Japanese Nivi City Gym, Tamamushi City Gym, and Yamabuki City Gym Theme Decks, both decks of the Japanese Quick Starter Gift Set, and in the Legendary Collection expansion.

It was later reclassified in the Black & White expansion as an Item card with new artwork by Kent Kanetsuna, previously released in the Japanese Beginning Set, Beginning Set for Girls, and Black Collection. It was later reprinted in the Japanese Beginning Set + and Beginning Set Pikachu Version rereleases of the original Black & White Beginning Set, and in the Plasma Blast expansion, first released in the Japanese Blastoise + Kyurem-EX Combo Deck.

Energy Retrieval was again reprinted with new artwork by 5ban Graphics as one of the XY-P Promotional cards available in the Xerneas & Yveltal Card Box from December 13, 2013. This print was later included in February 2015's Primal Clash expansion. The Japanese Bandit Ring expansion included a Secret print of Energy Retrieval, which was later printed in the Ancient Origins expansion. The original XY-P Promotional print was made available in a number of subsequent Japanese products, including the Primal Groudon & Primal Kyogre Card Box, the Emboar-EX vs Togekiss-EX Deck Kit, and the Mega Mewtwo X & Mega Mewtwo Y Card Box. It was reprinted again in the Japanese BREAK Starter Pack. It was reprinted as a retro card in the Evolutions expansion, first released in the Japanese Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary subset, featuring the same artwork as the original print and an updated card template reminiscent of the Original Series layout.

Energy Retrieval was reprinted again during the Sun & Moon Series as part of the Sun & Moon expansion, first released in the Japanese Collection Moon and Sun & Moon Starter Set simultaneously on December 9, 2016. This print features new artwork by 5ban Graphics. It was later included in the Ash Half Deck of the Japanese Ash vs Team Rocket Deck Kit. It was reprinted in the English Shining Legends expansion and the Japanese subset of the same name, as well as in the Japanese Remix Bout subset.

Energy Retrieval was reprinted again during the Sword & Shield Series as part of the Sword & Shield expansion, first released in the Japanese V Starter Set Lightning. This print has new artwork by Ryo Ueda. It was reprinted in the Japanese Sword & Shield Premium Trainer Box.
