Eevee (Japanese: イーブイ Eievui) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It is known to evolve into one of seven different Pokémon by various methods.

• Vaporeon when exposed to a Water Stone
• Jolteon when exposed to a Thunderstone
• Flareon when exposed to a Fire Stone
• Espeon via happiness during the daytime (Generation II onward)
• Umbreon via happiness during the nighttime (Generation II onward)
• Leafeon when leveled up in Eterna Forest (Generation IV onward)
• Glaceon when leveled up on Route 217 (Generation IV onward)

If leveled up in Eterna Forest or on Route 217 while happy enough to evolve into Espeon or Umbreon, it will still evolve into Leafeon or Glaceon respectively.

It is the starter Pokémon for the main character of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness. It is also the starter Pokémon for the rival in Pokémon Yellow, although Oak originally intended to give it to the player.

Biology

Eevee has an irregular genetic code and can sometimes evolve in accordance to its environment. Seven evolutions for this Pokémon have been discovered so far. Three of these evolutions are the result of Eevee being exposed to either a Fire Stone, Thunderstone or Water Stone. Two more of the evolutions involve maximum affection with the Trainer and accordance to the time of day. The final two evolutions are the result of training in two specific areas, Eterna Forest and Route 217.

Physiology

Eevee is a mammalian creature with brown fur, a bushy tail that has a cream-colored tip, and a furry collar that is also cream-colored. Eevee has brown eyes, big ears, and pink paw pads. It has traits of raccoons, foxes, dogs, and cats.

Gender differences

No gender differences are known.

Special abilities

Most of Eevee's offensive moves are Normal-type attacks such as Tackle and Quick Attack, but it can also bite its opponents and use Shadow Ball. However, it's unique in that it is unable to learn most other elemental attacks that other normal-types can utilize, at least not in its current state. Eevee can also learn supportive moves such as Helping Hand and Wish. Eevee is one of few Pokémon that can learn Trump Card. Some Eevee have the ability Adaptability, which makes any Normal-type attack that they use become stronger than when used by any other Normal-type Pokémon whose attack power is the same as Eevee's. Eevee is said to have an irregularly shaped genetic structure, enabling it to evolve into multiple Pokémon. This code may also shed some light on one of its abilities, Adaptability.

Behavior

Eevee's behavior can be affected by its surroundings. Eventually, with enough alteration, the Eevee may evolve to better suit its surroundings. According to Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, Eevee has a naive personality, meaning childlike, playful, and friendly. In the anime, Eevee don't appear to have any characteristic quirks but are usually affectionate, loyal and fairly energetic Pokémon.

Eevee are quite rare in the wild. They sometimes live near cities and towns. It is possible for Eevee to live almost anywhere, and they may evolve to suit their surroundings. It was first documented in Kanto, but have been seen in Johto and Sinnoh.

May's Eevee

May received an egg from a Daycare Worker in May's Egg-Cellent Adventure. The egg hatched into an Eevee in Time-Warp Heals All Wounds, and evolved into Glaceon before May met back up with the group in A Full Course Tag Battle!.

Gary's Eevee

Gary's Eevee debuted in The Rivalry Revival, defeating Ash's Pikachu. It evolved into an Umbreon some time before Power Play.

Other

Eevee first appeared in The Battling Eevee Brothers. A little boy named Mikey was hiding the Evolution Pokémon from his three older brothers because they wanted him to evolve it. However, when Mikey's Eevee single-handedly defeated Team Rocket, Sparky, Rainer, and Pyro were able to accept the fact that Mikey wanted to keep his Eevee just the way it is.

Sakura had an Eevee in Trouble's Brewing. By the time Ash and co. met up with Sakura again in Espeon Not Included, her Eevee had evolved into an Espeon.

An Eevee appeared in A Rivalry to Gible On!.

Two Eevee appeared in DP174, under the ownership of Ursula. Both of them evolved during her performance.

Minor appearances

Ritchie consulted Professor Oak on advice on what evolved form is best for his Eevee. However this was only mentioned in the dub and it is unknown whether he owns an Eevee in the Japanese version.

An Eevee was used by one of the students of the Pokémon Trainer's School in Gonna Rule The School!.

In the manga

Like in the anime, Eevee is featured in The Electric Tale of Pikachu under the ownership of Mikey.

Eevee is owned by Coconut in Magical Pokémon Journey. Another Eevee named Lu appears and shows its love for Coconut's Eevee.

Pokémon Adventures

Eevee is seen as a Pokémon experimented on by Team Rocket, in their tests to attempt merging Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres into a single Pokémon. The experiments gave Eevee the characteristic of being able to mutate into three of its evolved forms, namely Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon, though not at will. Red eventually captures this Eevee. When it evolves into Espeon, however, it loses its mutation ability.

Another Eevee was seen under the ownership of Karen, during her childhood as one of the children captured by the Masked Man. It is presumed that this Eevee eventually evolves into her Umbreon.

Trivia

• Fans have come up with a term to refer to all Pokémon which evolve from Eevee: Eeveelutions.
  • All of Eevee's evolutions end in the suffix -eon.
  • Eevee and its evolutions all have a catch rate of 45.
  • Each Eeveelution has identical base stat totals, as well as the same 130-110-95-65-65-60 amounts. What differs among them is what amount is allotted to which stat.
• In Pokémon Ranger, all of Eevee's evolutions up to the third generation can be "captured". However, Eevee cannot even be found at all. This was eventually changed in the sequel.
• Eevee's name is a palindrome; it shares this distinction with Girafarig and Ho-Oh.
• Eevee's Generation I evolutions: Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon can be obtained at level 1 since an evolutionary stone is required for each, while its Generation II and Generation IV evolutions can be obtained at level 2, because they require leveling up when a certain condition is met.
• If Eevee's happiness is raised to a maximum while in Eterna Forest or on Route 217, it will not evolve into Espeon or Umbreon; instead becoming Leafeon or Glaceon, respectively.
• Eevee and Tyrogue are the only Pokémon that can evolve into more than two Pokémon, if Wormadam's alternate forms are not counted as separate Pokémon.
• Eevee is one of only three Pokémon with two abilities that evolves into a Pokémon with only one ability. The other two are Trapinch and Sneasel.
• Despite the fact that May, Gary and Sakura each owned an Eevee that went on to evolve, an evolution of an Eevee was never seen on screen in the anime until DP174 when Ursula evolved her two Eevee into Flareon and Vaporeon during a contest appeal, over thirteen years into the series.
• During Generation I, Eevee was the only Pokémon that could evolve into more than one species. With the release of several Pokémon in Generation II and on, however, its only distinction now is its ability to evolve into as many species as it is able: currently seven.
  • Eevee is one of two Pokémon that evolve with the Thunderstone. The other is Pikachu.
• Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum are the only main series games where Eevee are found in the wild. Interestingly, when it is caught, it knows four status moves.
• All of Eevee's evolutions so far have had their elemental type be one whose moves were formerly governed solely by the Special Attack stat. The only formerly all-special elemental type not covered is Dragon.
• Bite is the only move learned by Eevee that gets a same-type attack bonus for one of its evolved forms.
  • Abnormally for a Normal-type Pokémon, it can learn only five moves that are not themselves Normal-type: Mud-Slap (Ground), Bite (Dark), Iron Tail (Steel), Dig (Ground), and Shadow Ball (Ghost). This is likely so as to limit the movepools of its evolutions to moves of their own types.
• Eevee is the only Pokémon that is given by an NPC in all four generations.
• Eevee is one of only two Pokémon to change its type completely upon evolution. The other is Azurill.
• Generation III is the only generation so far to not have an evolution for Eevee.
• Eevee's Pokédex entry in Yellow implies that it's an endangered species. However, it can be easily caught multiple times in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.

Origin

It has traits of foxes and cats. It is possibly based on the folklore of Tanuki, who is said to be able to transform and is the alternative name for the Japanese raccoon dog. It may also be based on the concept of dog breeding and the multitude of variations that arose from it. It may also be based on the foxes ability to adapt to extreme enviroments, like the desert fox, and the arctic fox.

Name origin

Eevee's name is a pronunciation of E-V, the first two letters in the word evolution.

Eevee was originally going to be called "Eon," the suffix of all the evolutions of Eevee, which probably is a shortening of "evolution". Eon also means a long time, which is how long it takes for evolution to take place in the real world.
