Dusclops (Japanese: サマヨール Samayouru) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Duskull starting at level 37, and evolves into Dusknoir when traded holding a Reaper Cloth.

Biology

Physiology

Dusclops has a roundish body with two stubby legs. It has single red eye, three tooth-like appendages similar to its pre-evolution, and its hands appear to be directly attached to its body. It appears to have two bandage ends coming out of its backside.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Dusclops has the ability to trigger fear in its opponent, hence its pressure ability. Its body is hollow and can absorb anything much like a black hole.

Behavior

Dusclops appear to be Pokémon with a fearsome reputation. But they can be loyal to their trainer to a fault.

Habitat

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

It is able to absorb anything into its body cavity. However, it is sometimes found with the Kasib Berry.

Major appearances

Dusclops first appeared in Jirachi: Wish Maker. It was one of the Pokémon that Butler used to perform in his magic show.

Timmy Grimm, who uses the alter-ego of "The Phantom" owns a Dusclops, which was once a Duskull. It easily defeated Drew's Roselia in Disaster of Disguise and was used for the Verdanturf Town contest in Disguise Da Limit.

Brandon used his Dusclops against Ash in their battle in Gathering The Gang of Four and Pace - The Final Frontier.

In the manga

A Dusclops was first seen in Wally's attempt to scale the Sky Pillar to be accepted into Norman's tutelage. It nearly sucked both Wally and Treecko he rescued, but the Pokémon evolved and defeated it with a Leaf Blade.

Another Dusclops joins Emerald's team. This Dusclops had been illegally added to the Battle Pike and Emerald determined that it came from Mt. Pyre. He calmed it and took it following the fight at the Artisan Cave.

Game data

NPC appearances

  • Pokémon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire: Dusclops has its own mini-game on the Sapphire Table, which can be accessed the first time the three Poké Balls in the middle of the table are lit up. Dusclops will not appear until 20 Duskull have been hit. After that, Dusclops must be hit five times to win. However, it will suck up the ball for a brief period if attacked from the front so it must be hit from behind or while it is moving.

Trivia

  • Despite what is written in its Sapphire Pokédex entry, Dusclops cannot learn Hypnosis.
  • In its Generation III sprites, Dusclops is shown to have only four fingers as opposed to the five shown in its official artwork and more recent sprites.
  • Its HeartGold and SoulSilver Pokédex entries seem to differ from the rest. While most state that Dusclops will absorb the entire person, HeartGold and SoulSilver state that it will only absorb the person's spirit.
  • It is one of only two Pokémon introduced in Generation III to evolve by trading while holding an item. The other is Clamperl.
  • Of all Pokémon capable of evolving, Dusclops has the highest base Special Defense.

Origin

Dusclops is based on chōchin obake, which are one-eyed haunted paper lanterns. It also seems to have similarities to mummies.

Name origin

Dusclops's name is probably a combination of dusk and cyclops.

Samayouru is probably a combination of 彷徨う samayou, to wander about, and 夜 yoru, night.

In other languages

Language Name Name Origin
German Zwirrklop From Zwielicht, wirr, and Kyklop.
French Teraclope Comes from Térato and Cyclope.
Korean 미라몽 Miramong
Chinese (Taiwan) 夜巨人 Yè Jù Rén Literally "Night giant".
