Trivia

  • Drilbur was revealed on Oha Suta on June 27, 2010.
  • Drilbur is the only pure Ground-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V.
  • Drilbur shares the same species name with Diglett and Dugtrio. They are all known as Mole Pokémon.

Origin

It is based on a mole. The shape of its arms could come from shovels.

Name origin

Drilbur might be a combination of drill and burrow or bur, a type of tool that is similar to Drilbur's claws. The word Excalibur may also be included.

Mogurew may be a combination of 土竜 mogura (mole) and screw. Notably, an alternate reading of 竜 is ryū (dragon).
