Physiology
Drapion is a large, purple, scorpion-like Pokémon. Its eyes are a pointed shape, with blue-colored upper portions. Drapion has two small, pointed protrusions between its eyes, and one on the back of its head. Drapion also has protrusions on its jaws, two on the upper and three on the lower, with large, fang-like, white-colored features extending from its mouth. Its body is composed of many violet-to-lavender body segments which end with a tail with two stingers. Drapion has four segmented legs with pointed toes. Its most distinguishing feature is its huge claws. It can turn its head 180 degrees.

Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
Drapion is a very aggressive Pokémon, attacking anything that enters its territory. It primarily lives in deserts and otherwise rocky environments. Drapion has a sturdy build and takes pride in its strength, being able to take down foes even without the use of its deadly toxin. Drapion has enough power to easily scrap a car, while its Battle Armor can deflect sword strikes. Due to its vicious nature and brutish temperament, it's known as the Sand Demon, but is known to avoid fights with Hippowdon. Drapion tends to go on rampages and causes havoc on anything in its way.
This Pokémon is very strong, and has enough power to easily scrap a car. It's also encased in a tough exoskeleton and it is very poisonous. It can rotate its head 180 degrees, and can also extend its tail.

Evolution
Drapion evolves from Skorupi.

Habitat
(For specifics on this Pokémon's evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)
It is probably native to dry desert areas, much like Skorupi. However, it is found in Pastoria City's Great Marsh.

Trivia
Trivia
* Two of Drapion's Abilities revolve around critical hits. Battle Armor protects it from them, and Sniper strengthens a move that becomes a critical hit to 3× the damage instead of 2×.
* Drapion and Skorupi are the only Generation IV List of Pokémon by shape.
* Drapion is the only Pokémon owned by Aaron of the Elite Four that is not Bug type, the type he specializes in. This can probably be explained because its pre-evolution, Skorupi, is part Bug. Another reason may be the fact that Drapion is in the Bug.
** Drapion and Skorupi are also the only Generation IV Pokémon in the Water 3 Egg Group.
* Despite it being said that Drapion's habitat is the Desert, the player can't catch it in any Desert route or area.
* As of Generation V, Drapion and Skorupi's Egg Group (Bug and Water 3) are unique.
* In the Pokémon Annual 2009, Drapion's Pokédex entry is replaced with Girafarig's.
* Drapion can learn more moves related to biting naturally than any other Pokémon (Thunder Fang, Fire Fang, Ice Fang, Bite, Bug Bite (from Platinum on), Poison Fang and Crunch), making seven. Hyper Fang and Super Fang are the only exceptions.

Origin
Origin
Drapion is based on a scorpion, and has some characteristics that resemble a Thelyphonida (a similar arachnid). Its Water 3 Egg Group designation may be a reference to the ancient group of arthropods known as Eurypterid that used to inhabit the oceans and may have been the ancestors of modern scorpions.
