Dozer met {{Ash}} and [[Goh]] while they were investigating an outbreak of {{p|Geodude}} at [[Rock Tunnel]]. Ash received word that Dozer was a challenger in the [[World Coronation Series]]. As a result, he challenged him to a {{pkmn|battle}}, which he accepted. Dozer used his {{p|Gurdurr}} against [[Ash's Farfetch'd]], and after a tough match, Farfetch'd's {{m|Brutal Swing}} was able to smash through Gurdurr's girder. Gurdurr was subsequently knocked out, causing Dozer's ranking to go down. Dozer comforted Gurdurr afterwards and gave it his pickaxe and watched as Farfetch'd ran off.
