Diploma: Difference between revisions

The '''Diploma''' is an item awarded in all of the main handheld Pokémon games for completing various modes of the [[Pokédex]]. It is always obtained from [[Game Freak]]'s lead developer, usually at their headquarters at [[Celadon Condominiums]]. In games where a Game Freak building is not visitable, he's on vacation at the top floor of Cove Lily Motel at [[Lilycove City]] (in {{game2|Ruby|Sapphire|Emerald}}), at the northwesternmost house of the [[Hotel Grand Lake]] at the [[Valor Lakefront]] (in {{game2|Diamond|Pearl|Platinum}}), or {{DL|Coumarine City|Coumarine Hotel}} (in [[Pokémon X and Y]]), where he also gives out the diploma. The diploma is not an item in the regular sense as it is not added to the {{player}}'s inventory; to view it after obtaining it, the player must talk to said lead developer again. In {{game|Black and White|s}} and {{g|X and Y}}, the diploma is instead sent to the player's [[bedroom]] for display.

In Generation {{gen|I}} and {{gen|II}}, there is only one diploma in the game, awarded for capturing most of the Pokémon revealed at the time. From [[Generation III]] onwards, there is one diploma awarded for completing the [[regional Pokédex]] and a second for completing the [[national Pokédex|national one]]. [[Event Pokémon|Event Legendary Pokémon]] ({{p|Mew}}, {{p|Celebi}}, {{p|Jirachi}}, {{p|Deoxys}}, {{p|Manaphy}}, {{p|Darkrai}}, {{p|Shaymin}}, {{p|Arceus}}, {{p|Victini}}, {{p|Keldeo}}, {{p|Meloetta}}, {{p|Genesect}} and {{p|Diancie}}), as well as {{p|Ho-Oh}} and {{p|Lugia}} in the Generation III games and {{game2|Diamond|Pearl|Platinum}}, and {{p|Phione}} prior to Generation VI, are not required to qualify for any of the diplomas. In {{game2|Diamond|Pearl|Platinum}}, one needs to only see all of the Pokémon in the [[List of Pokémon by Sinnoh Pokédex number|Sinnoh Pokédex]] to qualify for the regional version of the diploma.

In [[Generation VI]], a total of five diplomas are awarded: one for capturing every Pokémon in each of the [[List of Pokémon by Kalos Pokédex number|Kalos Pokédexes]], one for obtaining all of those three diplomas, and one for completing the National Pokédex. These diplomas are different if the player finished their Pokédex only with Pokémon from Kalos. Like in Generation V, these diplomas are sent to the player's bedroom.

In {{game|Red and Green|s}}, it was long rumored that the player could obtain {{p|Mew}} from Game Freak's lead developer in [[Celadon Condominiums]] after completing the [[Pokédex]] of 150 Pokémon. However, this is false; instead, a diploma is awarded for finishing the Pokédex.

In {{game|Yellow}}, if a player owns a [[Game Boy Printer]], they may print out a copy of their diploma.
