Colress (Japanese: アクロマ Achroma) is a Pokémon researcher and the second boss of Team Plasma, appointed by Ghetsis. His goal is to discover the true way to draw out the strength of Pokémon.

In the games

In Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, Colress is first encountered in Castelia Sewers. He is met again at Castelia City, where he tells the player that he disagrees with the old Team Plasma's goals to liberate Pokémon from humans. The player re-encounters Colress on Route 4, where several Crustle block the path. Colress uses his machine to drive the Crustle away and challenges the player to a battle. Colress is once again seen as a participant in the Pokémon World Tournament, matched against the player in the final round of the tournament. He is later encountered on Route 22. Like usual, he talks to the player mostly about Team Plasma, as well as handing the player a machine required to get past the Crustle blocking the way inside Seaside Cave.

Later on, during the battle against the new Team Plasma on the Plasma Frigate while at the Giant Chasm, Colress is seen in a chamber, where he reveals that he joined Team Plasma to pursue and research the true strength of Pokémon. After he is defeated in battle, he allows access to Ghetsis's chamber, wanting to see if the player can stop him.

After the player enters the Hall of Fame, Colress continues to dwell in the Plasma Frigate; however, he and the other Team Plasma members have decided to put an end to their ambitions. Colress remains in the chamber when he first met the player on the Plasma Frigate; there, he can then battle the player and will give the player a Master Ball once defeated. He will then move to the stern of the Frigate, where he will battle the player once per day.

While he does not appear in Pokémon X and Y, Colress is mentioned by a Backpacker found on Route 10, who says, "A few years back, this really strange dude named Colress told me that these big stones emit some kind of special energy."

In Pokémon Sun and Moon, Colress appears on Route 8 and gives the player TM43 (Flame Charge). After becoming the first Alola Champion, Colress will reappear on the same route and give the player the Genesect Drives. He also participates as a Trainer in the Battle Tree.

When he is first met, he tells the player that he is still conducting his research into the true power of Pokémon, but following the events of Black 2 and White 2, he now believes that the source of a Pokémon's true power is its bond with its Trainer. He is in Alola researching the Z-RingSM or Z-Power RingUSUM and if it can draw out the power of Pokémon more effectively than the Mega Ring. He also expresses interest in the Poké Pelago.

In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Colress's role is slightly expanded, and he is revealed to be one of the people the Ultra Recon Squad reached out to to help them with Necrozma. In response, Colress created the N-Solarizer and N-Lunarizer, based on his prior experience with Pokémon fusion. He gives the player both devices after witnessing them capture Necrozma on Mount Lanakila. The player can also visit him in his the hotel room at Tide Song Hotel before he is officially introduced. However, he's only talking to himself and doesn't seem to notice the player.

Colress also has a role in the battle against Team Rainbow Rocket in Episode RR. While the player and Lillie work to defeat the bosses of Team Rainbow Rocket, Wicke contacts Colress to enlist his aid. He follows the player and Lillie using an invisibility device he invented, and returns the bosses to their original worlds as they are defeated. Though Archie and Maxie are seen being warped away, Colress does not reveal himself until the player defeats Ghetsis, who subsequently takes Lillie as a hostage. Recognizing that this Ghetsis is not the one he knows, he declares that he opposes this Ghetsis's goals simply because he hates Ghetsis in all cases, then dispatches him back to his own world with a prototype device known as the Colress Machine No. 1102 (Japanese: アクロママシーン 1102 Achroma Machine No. 1102). Colress allows the player and Lillie to move on and battle Giovanni to rescue Lusamine while he works to untangle the dimensions coming together to create Team Rocket's Castle. By the time the player defeats Giovanni, Colress manages to revert the castle back to being Lusamine's mansion.

Quotes

Pokémon Black 2 and White 2

Castelia Sewers
"You there! That was an excellent demonstration of battling. The way you brought out the power of your Pokémon against an opponent like Team Plasma… Astounding. Simply astounding. Interesting as well. I see…"
Castelia City's Central Plaza
"Oh, it's you again! If it's not an inconvenience, may I have a look at your Pokémon?"
Yes: "I appreciate your cooperation!"
No: "Are you sure? But this is for science."
"Oh! How interesting! Your <lead Pokémon> seems to display more self-confidence than others of the same species. And you're a Trainer with merely three Badges… Fantastic! I'm not sure how you're doing it, but you're bringing out the power of your Pokémon!"
"Oh, excuse me! I am a scientist. My name is Colress. The theme of my research is: "Bringing out the power of Pokémon." Bringing out the power of Pokémon! Is it possible to bring out their maximum power through the bond they share with their Trainers? Or is there some other, different method? I'd like to test my theory by battling with you. Do you find this acceptable?"
Regardless of choice: "Either way, I'll be waiting on Route 4. It's just beyond here!"
Route 4
  • Before battle
"I've been waiting for you! What's the matter? Interested in what's behind me? These are not mere rocks, but the Pokémon known as Crustle. Observe. With this device I created to energize Pokémon, I'll…"
"Those Crustle… Were they just lying here, out of energy, with their boulders on their backs?"
"Team Plasma said we should recognize the potential in Pokémon and liberate them from humans. I disagree. Conversely, it should be humans who bring out the hidden potential in Pokémon!"
"Now that I think of it, I never asked your name. <player>… I'll remember that name. Well then, I will test you to see if you're a Trainer who can bring out the hidden potential of Pokémon!"
  • When defeated
"Splendid! You are quite the Trainer!"
  • After being defeated
"I see! Just like the Gym Leaders in each area or the Elite Four and Champion in the Pokémon League, you bring out the power in Pokémon by being kind to them! That's the kind of person you are. I'm extremely grateful for your help. This is a token of my gratitude."
"It's so frustrating! If only we could talk to Pokémon in order to bring out their power! But there's no way a person like that could ever exist! Well then, <player>, I hope to see you again sometime."
Pokémon World Tournament
  • Before battle
"As a researcher, it is the truth and the ideal way things should be that I seek. The latent power of Pokémon… What is the best way to bring it out? If possible, I want it to be the trust between Trainers and their Pokémon, just as it has always been. I look forward to you teaching me that this is indeed true!"
  • When defeated
"Well done! I learned much from this battle!"
  • If the player is defeated
"Remember our battle on Route 4? Please bring out more of your Pokémon's strength, like you did then!"
  • After being defeated
"Just as I expected! Your Pokémon must be happy to be by your side! You bring out the best in their power!"
  • After winning
"What is this?! Why don't you bring out more power from your Pokémon?!"
  • Inside the building
"By having battles with many Trainers, I can bring out Pokémon Abilities! Eventually, as I continue to battle, the truth of my theory will be evident to all!"
  • Outside the building
"Stop. There's no reason for you to stick your necks into something so dangerous!"
"I don't understand. That's not courage, it's recklessness! Does he think anything is possible simply because he has Pokémon with him? No, no… That's not possible. All Trainers and Pokémon are bound to one another by Poké Balls… Then maybe it is this bond that will allow Trainers to overcome the impossible if they trust their partner Pokémon."
  • When spoken to
"Trust... It's too much of an unknown factor. But if believing in your Pokémon gives you the courage to stand up to Team Plasma... And the courage to help your friends... Then follow them south to the dock!"
Route 22
"The one radiating such a tremendous presence before you is none other than Terrakion!"
"It's been a long time. Terrakion is one of the three Pokémon who protected Pokémon from the flames of a human conflict!"
"It seems likely that Terrakion has picked up the scent of danger that emanates from Team Plasma. It's probably seeking a Pokémon Trainer who has the strength to stand up to them."
"It's very interesting indeed that Terrakion appeared before you! That aside, do you plan to confront Team Plasma?"
Yes: "I see. If that's the case, you must have the power to protect your own Pokémon! Being protected by Pokémon alone doesn't make you a Trainer! It's because Trainers are strong, because they care about their Pokémon, that these Pokémon can also be strong!"
No: "I see! That works as well. You and your Pokémon can proceed down your own path! What you should do is care about your Pokémon to bring out their power to its fullest potential!"
"Here! This is from me!"
"This is a prototype of my device that energizes Pokémon! It doesn't work on battling Pokémon, but you may find it useful for something! Well then, I wish you and your Pokémon a safe journey!"
"Now that I think about it! In the Seaside Cave on Route 21, I saw something that reminded me of when we met on Route 4."
Plasma Frigate
  • Before battle
"Welcome! I was asked by an acquaintance to help with his research. What I desire is to bring out the entirety in Pokémon potential! If I can accomplish that, I don't care what it takes!"
"If it means the strength must be brought out by the interactions between Pokémon and Trainers, then so be it! If it means you have to use a merciless approach, like Team Plasma's, and force out all of the Pokémon's power, then so be it! And yes, if the entire world is destroyed as a result, then so be it..."
"That aside! The reason I have been traveling all over Unova and battling many Pokémon Trainers is because I was testing the viability of this approach to bringing out the full strength of Pokémon. In that respect, you've done an amazing job. Well now! Tell me if you have the answer I desire or not! If you're ready, come at me!"
  • If talked to again
"It looks like you're ready, then! OK! Let us begin!"
  • First non-KO HP loss
"Come on! More! Bring out your Pokémon's power!"
  • Sending out last Pokémon
"I'm more psyched than I've ever been! I can still go on!"
  • When defeated
"So this is what it means to draw forth the power hidden in your Pokémon!"
  • After being defeated
"So strong! You're a very strong Trainer indeed! So let me ask you this! Are you thinking of reaching even higher heights by understanding each other as Pokémon and Trainer?"
Yes: "I see... To me, that is an ideal answer. To think! That's what you actually believe! You bring out the power of your Pokémon with respect and love!"
No: "I see... Is that answer my truth? Even if that's your answer, don't give up! The reason you're so strong is that you treat your Pokémon with respect and love!"
"Excuse me for repeating myself, but if it will make Pokémon stronger, I don't care what it takes! If interacting with Pokémon can increase their powers only to a certain point, then their full strength must be brought out using a scientific approach. Even one without a conscience."
"But you have shown me the potential of your approach. To me, whether Team Plasma wins or whether you win will decide how the relationship between people and Pokémon should be! So where will this be settled? Step on the warp panel on the other side of the room where Kyurem is being held. Good luck in your battle!"
Plasma Frigate (post-game)
  • Before battle (first rematch)
"Could I say that you're curious for coming clear out here?"
"I dissolved Team Plasma. The ones who are left here are deciding what they want to do. I would like to have them decide on their own! There are far more questions in this world that don't have any answers! Well then... Please show me you and your Pokémon's strength once again!"
  • Upon first non-KO HP loss
"Come! Satisfy my urge to battle!"
  • Sending out last Pokémon
"Marvelous! I shall believe in my Pokémon!"
  • Last Pokémon at critical health
"If-if I'd believed more, could I have drawn out my Pokémon's power?"
  • When defeated
"The bonds between us... Does the fact that we can't see them make them even more real?"
  • After being defeated
"In Pokémon battles where you can't afford to make a mistake, the true nature of the Trainer's personality becomes clear. I see! If Trainers believe in their Pokémon to the fullest extreme, as you do, their Pokémon partners will also give everything they have! So that must be the answer I've been looking for. Still, I'm glad you won. For one thing, I detested Ghetsis from the start!"
"Take this with you! This Master Ball can catch any kind of Pokémon! Ghetsis was saving it, but you'll probably put it to better use! "
"If you'd like, please have a Pokémon battle with me again! Indeed, I'm having trouble deciding what to do next as well."
  • Before battle (second rematch onwards)
"Even the same Pokémon can exhibit different strengths depending on the Trainer! It's so interesting! Very, very interesting! Well now! Give me but a moment of your time!"
Yes: "The invisible force that exists between you and your Pokémon... This time I will determine what it is!"
No: "And I went to all the trouble to come here, too... You're an unkind person."
  • After being defeated
"The things you and your Pokémon have seen and felt... Do they belong to you and you alone? If you would, please have another Pokémon battle with me. By facing you, I feel as if I can see what I should do from now on."

Pokémon Sun and Moon

Route 8 (before becoming Champion)
"You there!"
"Oh, excuse me! I am a scientist. My name is Colress. The theme of my research is: "Bringing out the potential of Pokémon." What brings out the power of Pokémon is..."
"I believe that is—the bond they share with their Trainers!"
"And thus my attention is drawn to Trainers like yourself... Trainers bound to their Pokémon through the power of the Z-Ring!"
"Now that I think of it, I never asked your name. ..."
"<player>, is it? I'll remember your name. To commemorate our encounter, let me give you a TM."
"If you're able to utilize Flame Charge fully, you'll be able to have a great battle with the totem in the next trial...the trial in Lush Jungle."
"Z-Power... Is it the true potential that I seek? Does it surpass the Mega Ring? Apparently, there are uninhabited islands for Pokémon called Poké Pelago here in Alola. Alola is fascinating! I believe that I will stay in Alola for some time!"
"Well then, <player>, I hope to see you again sometime."
Route 8 (after becoming Champion)
"You there! Do you know of the Pokémon called Genesect?"
I do!: "Then I have no choice but to admit that you are all I would expect you to be!"
I don't: "Then allow me to inform you!"
"Genesect is a Pokémon that lived 300 million years ago. Then an organization called Team Plasma modified it, attaching a cannon to its back."
"The cannon's abilities could be activated using certain drives created by the scientists in the P2 Laboratory. I think that you might be able to use them as they should be used."
"Simply believing in your Pokémon will not guarantee that you can do everything you want. But there are many things that are guaranteed to fail if you do not believe in them. It is the trust between a Trainer and a Pokémon alone that can overcome those hurdles!"
If the player has not gone to the Battle Tree before: "You there! You should know that there is a battle facility on Poni Island called the Battle Tree. I look forward to seeing what kinds of Trainers and Pokémon I can encounter there!"

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

Tide Song Hotel
"This is excellent! Exciting, even! Alola is proving to be just full of surprises!"
"If a Trainer trusts his or her Pokémon, even in the most extreme of situations, the Pokémon inevitably respond by unleashing their full power! Just like that Trainer I once met..."
"There was only one answer I could reach. And in Alola, that answer takes the form of Z-Moves! I can now see with my own eyes the invisible power between Trainers and Pokémon... Z-Moves give it form! The Z-Power Ring and Z-Crystals... Their unknown energy will open doors to new worlds!"

I believe that I will stay in Alola for some time! Well then, <player>. I hope you will excuse me. I've had quite the curious request made to me by a couple of most oddly dressed strangers."
Mount Lanakila
"Splendid!"
"It's been a while, <player>. You must be a formidable Trainer indeed if you are able to get Necrozma as one of your allies."
"Good! And this is from me! The Ultra Recon Squad asked me to develop a device that would be able to control Necrozma. But I improved it to my own liking! And now it is a device that makes it possible to draw out even more power from Necrozma! Yes, in short, it makes it possible for Necrozma to fuse with the Legendary Pokémon Solgaleo! This is the Colress Machine No. 1198, officially dubbed the N-Solarizer!"
"In addition, this is the Colress Machine No. 1199, officially dubbed the N-Lunarizer! It makes it possible for Necrozma to fuse with the Legendary Pokémon, Lunala!"
"Ah yes. I have heard in fact that you first met SolgaleoUS/LunalaUM—no, its pre-evolved Cosmog—upon Mahalo Trail. I believe that a Trainer like you will be able to use both Alola's Legendary Pokémon and the fearsome power of Necrozma properly! I happen to know quite a bit about Pokémon fusion myself... But that is a different tale. Good luck in your battles!"
Route 8 (after becoming Champion)

Team Rocket's Castle
"I see you are still dedicated to your own desires, Ghetsis..."
"It has been a while."
"Miss Lillie, it is good to see you again. We ran into each other in the lab, perhaps you recall?"
"And you, <player>. We meet again! Ms. Wicke had sent word that you may need assistance. You'll have to forgive my rudeness, but I followed your trail using an invisibility device I recently invented."
"It seems Ghetsis here has caused you quite some trouble! Although it appears this Ghetsis is from a different world than the one I know."
"Oh, please..."
"I simply despise you, Ghetsis. That's enough reason for me!"
"It seems like repeated use is not a problem, even with the prototype. I should have known Colress Machine No. 1102 would work!"
"I simply adjusted his dimensional "channel," if you will, and sent him back to his original world! But Ghetsis is a man with power to match his ambition! He is not someone to be taken lightly. I can only hope that the taste of defeat will keep that Ghetsis out of trouble in his world..."
"But turning Aether Paradise back to its original form... With all the different worlds mixing together, that won't be easy, even for me! There is tremendous power of evil at the center of the castle... If we can remove that man's twisted desires, the Colress Machine should be able to revert everything back to normal..."
"Indeed, Miss Lillie! You are a very sharp young lady! I would like to study this castle, however, so I leave the rest to you two!"
  • If talked to again
"This castle... Oh, of course! Necrozma's power to open Ultra Wormholes overflowed and resonated with intent of tremendous evil, twisting reality and causing this to appear! The vortex of power somehow...summoned the evil leaders, such as Ghetsis, from their worlds! It's all very interesting... Ah, I mean, quite a pain. I could put this power to much better use!"
Aether Paradise
"The Colress Machine has been activated, and it restored the mansion to its original form... Which means...you've done it! You defeated Team Rocket!"
"For a Trainer such as you, who can bring out Pokémon's power through your bonds, it must have been easy."
"The defeat of Team Rocket's boss seems to have sent everyone who had come with him back to their own worlds."
"As for me... I have decided on the next theme of my research!"
"Well then, I hope to see you again sometime."

Colress in the anime

Colress debuted in Team Plasma's Pokémon Power Plot!, where he was conducting experiments with wild Pokémon in an attempt to bring out their true strength. From his base in an abandoned observatory outside of Floccesy Town, he used a large machine to generate electromagnetic waves that resonated with small devices on the wild Pokémon's foreheads, increasing their aggression and attack power while also rendering them subservient to Team Plasma's commands. Unfortunately for the villains, the mind-control device's EM waves also leaked into the surrounding wilderness, driving the local Pokémon to attack Floccesy Town and revealing their presence in the area. When Ash, his friends, and Looker arrived in the observatory, Colress released his mind-controlled Pokémon on them to test their strength.

Impressed by their Pokémon's ability to match his brainwashed Pokémon, he planted one of his controlling devices on Pikachu, forcing him to fight his Trainer. However, Ash's encouragement allowed Pikachu to fight against the EM waves, eventually causing the device to break and freeing Pikachu, much to Colress's amazement. Before he could gather further data, Team Rocket showed up, using one of their miniature robots to steal Colress's research data from his computer before quickly reciting their motto and making an escape with their balloon. With the mind-controlled Pokémon freed, Colress and the Team Plasma Grunts he had with him retreated, destroying the observatory with a self-destruct mechanism to get rid of all possible evidence.

In Team Plasma's Pokémon Manipulation!, it was revealed that he had upgraded his Pokémon-controlling machine with his remaining research data. Instead of emitting radio waves to activate separate receivers on its targets, the machine now fired a narrow energy beam which instantly brought any Pokémon it hit under Team Plasma's control. Using this machine, Colress took control of a Haxorus, which he sent rampaging in a city. When Ash and his friends arrived and sent their Pokémon to stop Haxorus, Colress used his machine to take control of Iris's Dragonite, giving the heroes a lot more trouble to deal with. Suddenly Team Rocket appeared, attempting to steal Colress's machine. A battle between Jessie and James's Woobat and Amoonguss and Aldith's Liepard then took place, during which one of Liepard's Shadow Balls accidentally hit the machine, breaking it and freeing Haxorus and Dragonite from his control. Realizing that they were at a disadvantage, Colress and the Plasma Grunts retreated.

Colress briefly appeared in Secrets From Out of the Fog! with Aldith, discussing Team Plasma's plans with Ghetsis on a videophone call.

In Meowth, Colress and Team Rivalry!, Team Rocket invaded his newest laboratory and drew his security – consisting of Aldith, Barret and some other Plasma Grunts – into a trap in the woods. Once Colress was alone, Meowth approached him and attempted to convince him to join Team Rocket. Colress refused, but offered to allow Meowth to participate in an experiment to increase his strength. Meowth agreed, having undergone training to resist the mind control device. However, Colress still managed to take control of Meowth, and ordered him to attack Jessie and James. Using Frillish and Amoonguss, they managed to snap him out of it before escaping. Later, Colress was seen with his Grunts reporting to Ghetsis, who revealed information about the Light Stone to them.

In Ash and N: A Clash of Ideals!, Colress appeared with the rest of Team Plasma to commence their operation at the White Ruins. While Aldith, Barret and many other Grunts ambushed the workers at the site, Colress used his perfected machine to seize control of the workers' Pokémon and turn them on their Trainers. In Team Plasma and the Awakening Ceremony!, he also took control of Pikachu again, forcing N to surrender the Light Stone to Team Plasma in exchange for Ash's safety.

In What Lies Beyond Truth and Ideals!, aiding Ghetsis in taking control of the awakened Reshiram. When Ash and Pikachu tried to stop him, he used his machine on Pikachu yet again. However, this time Pikachu was able to fight against its control, and – together with Reshiram – destroyed Colress's machine once and for all, thus freeing the controlled Pokémon. Later Colress and the other Team Plasma members were arrested by Looker, thus bringing the team down. As Officer Jenny took Team Plasma into custody, Colress mentioned his next project will be a device that allows Pokémon to communicate with people.

Character

Colress can be seen as a sadistic mad scientist, who uses the power of his machine to manipulate Pokémon. He wants to "bring out a Pokémon's true power", which he believes is anger.

Controlled

While Colress has not been shown to own Pokémon in the anime, his mind-control device allowed him to temporarily command the following Pokémon:

Galvantula
Galvantula was one of the Pokémon Colress used to test the original version of his mind-control device. It appeared to be one of Colress' favorites, as he called it his "star test subject", but passed out when Colress attempted to increase the intensity of the EM waves. After it recovered, it was forced to fight Ash's Pikachu and Iris's Axew. It was eventually released from Colress's control when Team Rocket stole his data and deactivated the machine.

Galvantula's known moves are Thunderbolt and Electro Ball.

Beartic
Beartic was one of Colress' test subjects in the Floccesy Town observatory. It was also forced to fight against Ash's Pikachu and Iris's Axew. It was eventually released from Colress's control when Team Rocket stole his computer's data.

Beartic's only known move is Ice Beam.

Scolipede (×2)
Colress used his mind-control machine to take control of a Scolipede on two separate occasions.

The first Scolipede was one of the Pokémon Colress used in his initial research, being subjected to EM waves within the old Floccesy Town observatory. It was forced to fight Ash's Pikachu, and was eventually released from Colress' control when Team Rocket stole his data.

In Team Plasma's Pokémon Manipulation!, Colress tested out the upgraded version of his mind-control machine on another Scolipede. After the Scolipede fired off an attack, Colress turned his machine off, reverting the Scolipede back to its normal state.

The first Scolipede's only known move is Poison Tail.
The second Scolipede's only known move is Solar Beam.

Pikachu
Main article: Ash's Pikachu

During the battle against the controlled Pokémon in the abandoned observatory, Colress was impressed by Ash's Pikachu's strength. Deciding to use the Electric Mouse for his tests, he attached a receiver to Pikachu and turned his EM wave generator to maximum output. Although Pikachu was forced to attack his Trainer, Ash was able to encourage him to fight against the machine. After a struggle, he managed to destroy the receiver on his head, freeing himself from Colress's control.

In Team Plasma and the Awakening Ceremony!, Colress used his perfected mind-control device to take control of Pikachu again. This time, Ash's pleas did not get through to him, and Colress forced the Mouse Pokémon to viciously attack his Trainer. Colress ultimately freed him from control once N traded the Light Stone for Ash's safety.

In What Lies Beyond Truth and Ideals!, during the final battle against Team Plasma, Colress took control of Pikachu for the third time. This time, however, Pikachu was able to fight against the force that controlled him, even disobeying his orders and attacking Reshiram, which was also under Colress's control. Even though Colress fired his device on Pikachu again, he was able to keep fighting, and, together with the similarly-rebelling Reshiram, destroyed the control machine, freeing the controlled Pokémon once and for all.

Colress as the Hood Man

History

Black & White arc

Colress debuted in Hallway Hijinks, where he participated as a competitor in the Pokémon League. Disguised as the cloak-bearing Hood Man (Japanese: フードマン Hood Man), he managed to sneak in without having earned any of the eight Unova Gym Badges. After battling his way through Victory Road, he eventually made it into the top 8.

In Into the Quarterfinals!, Colress faced Marlon. Although Marlon managed to disable the moves of Colress' Beheeyem, Colress came out on top and advanced to the next round. After leaving, he noted that participating in the League and observing powerful Trainers would help him in his research. In Something Suspicious, Colress faced Cheren in the semifinals. Although Cheren initially struggled due to his Snivy's lack of strength, he switched it out for his Unfezant and quickly defeated Colress's Beheeyem with a U-turn.

In True Friends, Colress and Zinzolin watched Black and Cheren face each other in the finals. During the match, they talked about Zinzolin's theory that a cold heart was the best way to bring out a Pokémon's true strength. Although Zinzolin stated that his theory was correct, Colress noted that - in his battles - he was able to see varying styles from many strong Trainers that brought out their Pokémon's strength. When White discovered that the two were affiliated with Team Plasma, she attempted to expose them to everyone at the League. Although she was successful, Colress had his Beheeyem use Teleport to transport her to N's room inside his castle.

In Cold Hard Truth, Team Plasma attacked the League, summoning N's Castle from the depths of the earth to surround the League building. Colress assisted in the invasion by using Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus to battle the Elite Four. His true intention was to discover the secret of how to transform the three into their Therian Formes. After discovering that he needed a special mirror, Colress bid farewell to the Elite Four and escaped.

In A Difficult Parting, Colress used his Beheeyem to help Ghetsis escape after he was defeated by Black. With Beheeyem's power, Ghetsis caused Black to be sealed into the Light Stone before making his escape. Afterward, Ghetsis thanked Colress for his assistance with Team Plasma's plans and expressed interest in working with him again. Colress agreed, but on the condition that it didn't impede with his research.

Black 2 & White 2 arc

Eventually, Colress was made the new leader of Team Plasma in N's absence. In Mr. Perfect, Colress attacked Aspertia City with Genesect as a test-run of his Colress Machine. He was confronted by Blake and Looker of the International Police. After realizing that it was still wild, Blake used his Dewott to whittle down Genesect's health enough for him to capture it. Defeated, Colress commended Blake's strength and left, revealing that he was made the new leader of Team Plasma and that Ghetsis was planning a comeback. Later, Colress met with Ghetsis on the Plasma Frigate and stated that they needed to find Zinzolin, who had been ignoring their calls.

In Angry Boy, Colress confronted Zinzolin at the Cold Storage, demanding to know why he had been refusing to answer. Zinzolin revealed that he managed to capture Kyurem, the third Unova Legendary Dragon Pokémon. Colress praised Zinzolin for his success, but demanded that he hand Kyurem to him, angering Zinzolin into attacking. During the battle, Colress realized that Zinzolin's true intention was to have Kyurem fuse with Reshiram or Zekrom through Absofusion. Following Kyurem's trail, Blake arrived at the Pokémon World Tournament construction site, where he witnessed Thundurus and Landorus defeating Zinzolin. Upon spotting Blake, Colress used the Reveal Glass to turn Thundurus and Landorus into their Therian Formes.

In Therian Forme III, Blake tried arresting the unconscious Zinzolin, only for him to be taken away by Colress, who wished to use his knowledge of Kyurem to Team Plasma's advantage. With the Colress Machine, Colress took control of Kyurem and commanded it to attack, but was stopped by Ghetsis, who appeared with the Plasma Frigate. Ghetsis had Kyurem loaded into a special room on the ship. Blake tried stopping them, but was attacked by the Shadow Triad, allowing the Plasma Frigate to take off and fly through the air. The Plasma Frigate was flown to Castelia City, where it froze several buildings and people with its special Kyurem-powered cannon. When the traitor to Team Plasma, Rood, appeared, Ghetsis ordered Colress to capture the former Sage. Rood was saved by Whitley, who pushed him out of the way, only to get captured herself. Annoyed that Rood managed to escape, Colress had Whitley locked in an empty cabin.

In Flying Ship, Whitley was broken out of her cabin by Blake, who teamed up with her to free Kyurem from Colress' control. They destroyed the chamber where Kyurem was kept, but it was empty, as the Plasma Frigate had already drained enough energy to freeze all of Unova. Colress had Kyurem freeze Blake and Whitley solid before commanding some Grunts to throw them into the ocean. Afterward, Colress realized that Kyurem appeared before Zinzolin because it was attracted to Reshiram and Zekrom's power when they awakened. He then speculated that because of Kyurem's power, Reshiram and Zekrom may return to Unova.

In PS542, Colress gave Ghetsis control over Kyurem so that he may use it to battle N, who had appeared to stop them. Later, Ghetsis managed to obtain the DNA Splicers needed for Kyurem to perform Absofusion. With them, Kyurem reverted Zekrom back to the Dark Stone, trapping N inside along with it.

In the Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon arc, Colress was seen handing Lusamine a large amount of Beast Balls in preparation for catching another Ultra Beast. After asking why she needed such a large amount of Beast Balls when one was more than enough, Lusamine revealed her next target was the powerful Ultra Beast worshiped as the "Blinding One" by the people of the Ultra Megalopolis: Necrozma.

Later, he was used against Cheren's Unfezant and was defeated by a super effective U-turn. When White attempted to rat Colress out, Beheeyem was used to Teleport her out of the stadium. Beheeyem also freed Ghetsis from a Stone Edge trap, slammed Black against Reshiram as it retracted into the Light Stone, and Teleported Ghetsis and Colress away from N's Castle.

Full Art print of Colress

Colress was introduced as a Supporter card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the English Black & White Series (the Japanese BW Era). First released in the Japanese Plasma Gale expansion, it was later released in the Team Plasma's Powered Half Deck and Team Plasma Battle Gift Set before debuting in English in the Plasma Storm expansion, with all prints featuring an illustration based on the Yusuke Ohmura artwork of the character. It was also released as a Full Art card in the Plasma Gale and Plasma Storm expansions, with an illustration by Kanako Eo. Colress allows the player to shuffle their hand into their deck, then draw as many cards as there are Benched Pokémon, the player's as well as the opponent's.

Trivia

  • Colress does not have an introduction and VS sprite the first two times he is fought. The third time, he has the Team Plasma template used by N and Ghetsis. In the post-Champion rematches, he uses the basic template used for battles against Gym Leaders, rivals, and Benga.
    • Colress's unique battle background music, 戦闘! アクロマ Battle! Colress, is not used in the first battle against him; it is first heard when he is fought on the Plasma Frigate and is kept for rematches.
  • Colress bears a striking resemblance to Ein, both in terms of appearance and motive. Both are scientists who wear glasses and a white lab coat and have a hair flick. Furthermore, they both strive to unlock the potential in Pokémon, and side with the evil team of their respective games.
  • According to concept art for Pokémon Sun and Moon, Colress's new outfit is named the "Achromatic Wearable Console."
