Clefable (Japanese: ピクシー Pixy) is a Normal-type Pokémon.

It evolves from Clefairy when exposed to a Moon Stone. It is the final form of Cleffa.

Biology

Physiology

Clefable still strongly resembles its pre-evolutions, but is noticeably much taller while still retaining its vague star shape. It remains a tailed biped, but its ears are now much longer and almost completely the same color as its body, with small brown tips. Its wings are now much larger and a deeper shade of pink, but they are incapable of flight. Clefable loses the elongated left canine and the nails on its fingers that it had as a Clefairy, but gains an extra clawed toe on each foot. The undersides of its feet have a circular dark pink pattern.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Clefable are most known for using Metronome in order to execute a random attack. Just like its pre-evolved forms, Clefable is very versatile whether it knows Metronome or not. The flavor text for Clefable states that its sense of hearing is so strong that it can hear a pin drop from half a mile (one kilometer) away. With its bouncy step, Clefable is even able to walk on water.

In The Electric Tale of Pikachu manga, Clefable are depicted as having the ability to fly using their wings, although they have never been seen doing so anywhere else.

Behavior

Clefable are extremely shy, even more so than Clefairy or Cleffa. As such, they are quite reclusive. It may visit lakes when the moon is present, such as when it is drawn by the full moon to play at deserted lakes, or to take strolls on them on quiet, moonlit nights.

Habitat

Clefable is just as rare in the wild as its pre-evolutions. They can be found at Mt. Moon, or in other mountains that offer clear views of the moon at night. It is said to be one of the rarest Pokémon in the world.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

They seem to like Leppa Berries, since they are occasionally found holding them.

In the anime

Major appearances

Clefable first appeared in Clefairy and the Moon Stone. After the large group of Clefairy blasted Team Rocket away with Metronome, particles of the giant Moon Stone landed on some of the Clefairy, causing them to evolve.

Clefable made an appearance for another Mt. Moon Festival in A Real Cleffa-Hanger.

Minor appearances

Clefable was also in a stage show about talking Pokémon for Stage Fight!.

A Clefable was used by a coordinator on New Plot, Odd Lot!.

In the manga

In The Electric Tale of Pikachu manga

In The Electric Tale of Pikachu, Ash, Professor Oak, and Bill befriend a group of Clefairy living on Mt. Moon in Clefairy Tale. They witness an evolution ceremony where many of the Clefairy in the group evolve into Clefable using a Moon Stone and then leave to explore the world.

In the Pokémon Adventures manga

Green's Clefable, Clefy

In Pokémon Adventures, Green had a Clefairy that later evolved into Clefable when Red used his Moon Stone on it. Although it was used only once for distraction against Sabrina prior to evolving, its increased power allowed it to stall Zapmolcuno for a short period of time with its Metronome. It has since been used as a main member of her team in Green's battle against Lorelei, where it minimized itself to retrieve her miniature ice sculptures, deliberately blowing off the arm part to let the Elite Four's guard down. It has seen no major appearances since, despite always being listed as a team member.

In the Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga

Main article: Isamu Akai's Clefairy

In the Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga, Isamu Akai's Clefairy can evolve into Clefable, although it has since devolved back to the Clefairy stage, as Pokémon can reverse the evolution process. Clefairy first evolves into Clefable in Clefairy finally evolves?!.

Whitney has a Clefable which is Clefairy's childhood friend.

Trivia

  • The prototype name for Clefable was "Ariala".
  • Despite it possessing the required anatomy, Clefable is not part Flying-type, nor can it learn a single move that involves its wings.
  • Clefable weighs the same as Ethan. It shares this trait with Latias and Gurdurr.

Origin

It seems to be based on fairies and pixies, being a magical, humanoid, playful, winged creature.

Name origin

Clefable is a combination of clef (French for [musical] key) and fable (a type of fictional story). It may also be derived from able, considering its strange ability to 'walk' on water or its amazing hearing.

Pixy is a corruption of pixie.
