Chespin (Japanese: ハリマロン Harimaron) is a Grass-type Pokémon.

Along with Fennekin and Froakie, Chespin is one of three starter Pokémon in Pokémon X and Y. It is unknown if it has a secondary type.

It, along with the other two starters in X and Y, were the first Generation VI Pokémon to be revealed to the public on January 8, 2013, as part of a Pokémon Direct broadcast.

Trivia

  • Chespin is the first Grass-type starter that is not based off a reptile.

Origin

Name origin

Chespin is a combination of chestnut and pin. It may also be from chinkapin, the name of some species of chestnut.

Harimaron is a combination of 蝟 harinezumi (hedgehog), 針 hari (needle), and marron (French for chestnut).
