Charizard's Crossword Challenge
Charizard's Crossword Challenge is a crossword minigame in Pokémon Team Turbo. The questions are about evolutionary stages of Pokémon.
Starting the game
The Charizard's Crossword Challenge is available from the main menu. It's also one of the minigames available at the Adventure Mode!, between the Race 1 (Street Match) and the Race 2 (Dirt Track Insanity!).
Game modes
The in-game description says that the player receives Turbo Boosts at the end of the crossword game, equivalent to the number of free letters they didn't use yet. However, this is only true for the Adventure Mode!, which consists of both racing games and other minigames. If the player starts the Charizard's Crossword Challenge directly from the main menu, it will be an endless game (until the player exits, or loses all guesses), and the player won't receive any Turbo Boosts. If played as part of the Adventure Mode!, then the player will receive Turbo Boosts equivalent to the number of Free Letters left in the crossword game.
Gameplay
The game screen includes the crossword itself, a "Question" space that is able to display one of the crossword questions, as well as a "Type your answer below" field for the player to use. The number of "Guesses left" and "Free letters" are seen at the left side.
When the player types an answer and presses Enter, the answer appears in the crossword if it's correct, or the player loses one of their guesses if it's incorrect. It's possible to reveal one or more letters by clicking on the "Press for free letters" button. Additionally, by answering correctly any question, one or more letters are revealed for the other answers at the intersections.
The answer field displays a blinking line of hyphens. If any letter is known, then it's shown at the correct spot. For instance, if the expected answer is "BRELOOM" and no letter is known, then this field will display seven hyphens by default: "-------"; if only the letter "E" is known, then it will display "--E----" by default. The player is able to type only capital letters (Caps Lock and Shift can't be used to type small letters; any numbers or punctuation are ignored). It's not possible to type an answer longer than expected (for instance, in the case of Breloom, the game would not accept any answer with more than 7 letters), but it's possible to answer incorrectly by entering a shorter answer.
At the start of the game, the first question is already visible, and the player may either type its answer or click on another hidden word to display its question. Once the player answers a question (no matter if it's right or wrong), the question below will disappear so the player will be required to click on a hidden word on the crossword to display the next question and keep playing.
In the endless game (the one started from the main menu), the first crossword has 3 words. Each next crossword has 1 more word than the last. After the player reaches a level with 7 words, the next level will return to 3 words once again. In the Adventure Mode!, there is a single crossword with 6 or 7 words. If the player has any free letters at the end of the game in the Adventure Mode!, they are converted into Turbo Boosts for the next race. If the player uses up all their guesses by trying 4 wrong answers in the current level (regardless of playing the Adventure Mode! or the endless mode), the game will be interrupted and the player will return to the main menu.

Questions
All the available questions are about the evolutionary stages of Pokémon. There are three kinds of questions:

"2nd Evolution" and "3rd Evolution" refer to the second and third evolutionary stages, respectively.
This applies to Generation III, so for instance Chansey counts as a first-stage Pokémon, and Blissey as a second-stage Pokémon (Happiny had not been introduced yet).

Branched evolutions
When a Pokémon has branched evolutions, only the first evolution in the National Pokédex order is accepted as the correct answer; the other evolutions are ignored. This affects the following questions:

Similarly, there are no questions involving the other branched evolutions. For instance, the game may ask "Vaporeon evolves from ... ?" (the answer being Eevee), but it will not ask questions such as "Flareon evolves from ... ?", "Espeon evolves from ... ?", "Cascoon evolves from ... ?", "Gorebyss evolves from ... ?", etc. because these branched evolutions were not programmed in the game.
Pokémon availability
The questions are about the Pokémon available up to Generation III, with some exceptions. Given that the questions are about evolutionary stages, it doesn't have any Pokémon without evolutions or pre-evolutions as of this generation (for instance, this game does not include Farfetch'd, Kangaskhan, Pinsir, Tauros, Lapras, Ditto, and so on; similarly, it does not include any Legendary or Mythical Pokémon). It's also missing some branched evolutions (as stated above). The families of Nidoran♀ and Nidoran♂ are not available either.
