Trivia

  • Chansey was originally going to use her Japanese name, Lucky, as her English name.
  • Chansey has the second-highest base HP of all Pokémon. The first is Chansey's evolution, Blissey.
  • Chansey, along with Happiny, has the lowest base stat for both Attack and Defense in the games.

Origin

Its tendency to carry eggs in a pouch is very monotreme- or marsupial-like. It may also just be based on a general concept of females and motherhood.

Name origin

Chansey's name is a corruption of chance; like its Japanese name, Lucky, it seems to refer to the rarity of this Pokémon.

In other languages

  • German: Chaneira
  • French: Leveinard - Le veinard means "The lucky one".
  • Korean: 럭키 Rakki - Transliteration of the English word Lucky.
