Kurio met {{Ash}} and {{an|Go}} after {{AP|Pikachu}} hit his Pokémon with {{m|Thunderbolt}}. He later explained why he used his {{p|Fearow}} and {{p|Cyndaquil}} to pose as {{p|Ho-Oh}} and introduced them to his grandfather [[Jiei]]. They later headed up the [[Bell Tower]], where they encountered a {{p|Misdreavus}} and {{p|Stantler}} who were standing guard. After being distracted by Stantler's illusions, the group reached the top of the tower after Go caught both Stantler and Misdreavus. Everyone called out to Ho-Oh without success, and Kurio proceeded to leave with Ash and Go.
