In the games, the Celadon Gym is a garden full of Trainers, all of which are female. It is impossible to reach Erika without fighting at least two other Trainers and using {{m|Cut}}. In {{game|HeartGold and SoulSilver|s}}, the Gym consists of lanes lined with flower pots and flower-covered archways that form a maze.

In every game in which the Celadon Gym is present since {{game|Red and Blue|s}}, an old man has appeared outside the Gym, cackling about the girls inside. In {{game|HeartGold and SoulSilver|s}}, his text has been changed, and instead he comments on the presence of "tough {{pkmn|Trainer}}s."

The Celadon Gym appeared in ''[[EP026|Pokémon Scent-sation!]]''. {{Ash}} wanted to challenge Erika to a Gym {{pkmn|battle}}, but the workers at the Gym refused to allow his entry because he had earlier criticized a {{wp|perfume}} shop, saying that all they do is turn men into zombies. They kicked him out of the shop for insulting them. When Ash found out that the Gym is where the perfume was manufactured, he was visibly shocked.

With help from {{TRT}}, Ash, in the guise of "[[Ashley]]", gained entry into the Gym. However, {{AP|Pikachu}} recognized that it was him, and {{m|Thunder Shock}}ed him to reveal Ash's attempted deception to everyone else in the Gym. After challenging Erika, she accepted his challenge, saying it's against [[Pokémon League]] rules to refuse a challenge.

Their battle was short-lived due to Team Rocket stealing the perfume. They detonated several bombs for their getaway, setting the Gym ablaze. However, thanks to the Pokémon of Ash, {{an|Misty}} and {{an|Brock}}, the Gym survived. After the fire was put out, Erika gave Ash the {{badge|Rainbow}} as a thanks for saving her {{p|Gloom}} from the flames.

Celadon Gym debuted in ''[[PS020|Meanwhile...Vileplume!]]'', where Erika requested {{adv|Red}} to catch [[Vee|Eevee]] before she would accept his challenge for a Gym battle. When Red found out that Eevee was capable of changing freely between [[Eeveelution|its evolutions]] and [[Devolution|back]], he immediately rushed to the Gym, suspecting Erika's involvement, and placed Eevee's [[Poké Ball]] into the Gym's healing machine. Before he could start the machine however, Erika appeared and challenged Red to a battle. Red's [[Saur]] and [[Poli]] didn't stand a chance against Erika's Pokémon, so Red switched for [[Pika]], but even it struggled to withstand Erika's attacks. As Eevee was close to dying, Erika told that she'd give it a painless death. Red refused to accept this and had Pika use {{m|Substitute}} to distract Erika long enough so that Pika could get to the healing machine first. Seeing this, Erika congratulated Red of the well-fought battle and activated the healing machine, restoring Eevee's health. She then explained that she had merely been testing Red to see if he was a brave and trustworthy ally for the fight against [[Team Rocket]], who had been the ones to manipulate Eevee in the first place. As a reward for showing his skills, Erika gave Red a {{badge|Rainbow}}.

In the {{chap|Yellow}}, Celadon Gym, along with the rest of Celadon City, was attacked by [[Lorelei]]'s army of {{p|Shellder}} and {{p|Cloyster}}. Erika fought against the attackers, preferring to immobilize them rather than hurting them.

Celadon Gym also has an outdoor archery range, where Erika occasionally practices her archery skills.

Celadon Gym appeared in ''[[PZ05|Celadon City]]'', where {{Zensho|Satoshi}} challenged Erika to a Gym battle, using his {{Zensho|Satoshi's Charmeleon|Charmeleon}} against Erika's Vileplume. As Charmeleon was blinded by Vileplume's {{m|Petal Dance}}, one of its {{t|Fire}} attacks accidentally set Erika's kimono on fire, and Satoshi had Charmeleon {{m|slash}} off the burning part before Erika could get hurt. Erika was about to be declared the winner, but she intervened, saying that Satoshi had raised his Charmeleon well. She then rewarded Satoshi with a {{badge|Rainbow}}.

* In Generations {{gen|I}} and {{gen|III}}, Celadon Gym's [[Gym guide]] can be found playing the slot machines at the [[Celadon Game Corner|Rocket Game Corner]], instead of advising the {{player}} on how to defeat [[Erika]].

* The Celadon Gym is the only Kanto Gym that requires the use of an [[HM]] as part of a Gym puzzle in order to progress in all generations except [[Generation II]].
